Description (EN):

The common territorial challenges in the Croatian-Serbian cross-border region are increased energy consumption by public buildings due to their insufficient energy efficiency, insufficient usage of renewable energy and lack of knowledge related to energy efficiency (EE) and renewable energy sources (RES) among authorities and general public. The project approach in addressing these challenges is by jointly developing and implementing green roofs and walls as well as solar panels on selected public buildings in Osijek and Novi Sad (one building in each city) supplemented with promotional and educational activities related to EE and RES topics. Green roofs and walls will be implemented in order to improve buildings energy efficiency and thus decrease their energy consumption. Solar panels will be deployed on building roofs in order to promote, produce and use renewable energy for green walls and roofs maintenance, air conditioning and light in buildings, preparation of hot water, thus promoting circular economy principles. The main project objective is to improve the energy efficiency of public buildings with the usage of green roofs and walls, to produce and use RES using solar panels and to promote EE and RES usage to public and private sector. The project outputs are estimated to reach about 213 kW of additional renewable energy production and efficiency. Achievement of the project will positively affect target groups, i.e. local and regional public authorities, sectoral agencies, NGOs, private sector, pupils and students, workers in buildings, and general public of two cities - about 400000 people. Cities agencies, private sector, NGOs and general public will benefit from developed infrastructure and knowledge transfer while project partners will gain new partnership for future cooperation in the region.

Achievements (EN):

As part of the GReENERGY project, the roof area was reconstructed on two public buildings in Novi Sad and Osijek. The facilities are located within urban areas, thus they have access to the city’s road, energy, utility network, as well as the Internet. Considering that the basic concept of the project is focused on the Nature-based solutions (NBS), the objectives of these reconstructions are multiple, as the concept of NBS dictates. One of the objectives is to achieve energy efficiency and the promotion of renewable energy sources.

Expected Results (EN): Energy consumption by public buidings in the programme area.

Expected Outputs (EN):

The results of proposed project are: 1. Decrease of energy consumption of about 145000 kWh in selected public building in Croatia on annual level. Decrease of energy consumption of about 47000 kW in selected public building in Serbia on annual level. The calculations of baseline and target values was performed by experts from OSIJEK and GNSGUI taking into account data of long-term energy consumption in building and predicted decrease in the buildings due to the implementation of green roofs and walls, replacement of old lights with LED and thermal insulation of building (only in Osijek). 2. Additional capacity of renewable energy produced of about 112000 kWh on annual level on roof area (about 600 m2) of the selected building in Croatia. Additional capacity of renewable energy produced of approximately 144000 kWh on annual level on roof area (about 960 m2) of the selected building in Serbia. The calculation of produced solar energy amount was calculate by experts from OSIJEK and GNSGUI taking into account roof area covered by solar panels and the amount of energy they can produce in this climate type (moderate continental climate). 3. Raised awareness about sustainable energy and energy efficiency among 400000 inhabitants of Osijek and Novi Sad. The number of people was defined based on predicted number of visits of people to opening and closing conference, workshops, visits to green and solar roofs and walls, project and partners websites and social media profiles. For example, 1000 students and pupils from Josip Juraj Strossmayer University and schools from Osijek as well as 1000 students from University of Novi Sad and pupils from Novi Sad will visit the developed green and solar roof and green wall.
