The IMPLAMAC project aims to create an observatory that generates quantitative and qualitative data on the impact of microplastics and different pollutants on the beaches of the archipelagos of the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, Madeira and Azores. For this purpose, a program of monitoring of microplastics and different contaminants in sands and waters of the beaches of the four archipelagos will be developed, which shows the degree of pollution existing and its evolution. Studies will also be carried out on the incidence of microplastics in some types of fish and their effect on trophic chains and ecosystems. The project also contemplates contributing to the improvement of public knowledge on plastic pollution, including raising awareness among the population, carrying out important dissemination, training and environmental education actions on the marine spaces of the four archipelagos.

En el proyecto IMPLAMAC se pretende crear un observatorio que genere datos cuantitativos y cualitativos del impacto que tienen los microplásticos y diferentes contaminantes en las playas de los archipiélagos de Canarias, Cabo Verde, Madeira y Azores. Para ello se desarrollará un programa de monitorización de microplásticos y diferentes contaminantes en arenas y aguas de las playas de los cuatro archipiélagos, que ponga de manifiesto el grado de contaminación existente y su evolución. También se llevarán a cabo estudios de la incidencia de microplásticos en algunos tipos de peces y de su efecto en las cadenas tróficas y en los ecosistemas. El proyecto también contempla contribuir a la mejora del conocimiento público en materia de contaminación por plásticos, incluyendo la sensibilización de la población, llevando a cabo importantes acciones de divulgación, formación y educación ambiental sobre los espacios marinos de los cuatro archipiélagos.
