Macflor2 is aimed at researching the reproductive systems of macaronesic endemisms. This research, based on the morphological and functional knowledge of the flower as the essence of the success or reproductive failure of populations, will focus its study on endemisms yet unexplored and taxa representing sexual systems or self-incompatibility not addressed in previous projects or that require further analysis; studies that will be complemented by analysis of genetic diversity in some endemisms of Madeira and Azores. In this idea, which points to the loss of its reproductive capacity as an essential cause of population decline, lies the value of Macflor2 which, from the knowledge and reproductive perspective, is capable of generating concrete and effective recovery strategies for endangered endemisms.

Macflor2 está dirigido a la investigación de los sistemas reproductivos de los endemismos macaronésicos. Esta investigación, fundamentada en el conocimiento morfológico y funcional de la flor como esencia del éxito o fallo reproductivo de las poblaciones, centrará su estudio en endemismos aún sin explorar y taxones representantes de sistemas sexuales y/o de auto-incompatibilidad no abordados en anteriores proyectos o que requieran profundizar en su análisis; estudios que se complementarán con análisis de diversidad genética en algunos endemismos de Madeira y Azores. En esta idea, que señala como causa esencial del declive poblacional la pérdida de su capacidad reproductora, radica el valor de Macflor2 que, desde el conocimiento y perspectiva reproductiva, es capaz de generar estrategias de recuperación concretas y efectivas para los endemismos en peligro.
