RAINMAN hanke pyrkii vastaaman haasteisiin, joita ilmastonmuutos ja kaupungistuminen voivat aiheuttaa vesihuollolle. Hankkeen aikana kehitetään innovatiivisia ja toteuttamiskelpoisia ratkaisuja hulevesien hallintaan päämääränä vähentää ravinteiden ja haitallisten aineiden kulkeutumista hulevesien mukana kaupunkialueilta pinta- ja pohjavesiin sekä edelleen Suomenlahteen.

The RAINMAN project aims at answering the challenges that climate change and urban development pose to fresh water reservoirs. It focuses on the development of feasible and innovative tools to manage storm water, both in quantity and quality, in order to minimize discharge of nutrients and hazardous substances from urban areas to fresh water resources and the Gulf of Finland.

Проект RAINMAN направлен на решение проблем, вызванных воздействием климатических изменений и городского развития на ресурсы пресной воды. Основное внимание будет уделено разработке инновационных инструментов управления ливневыми водами, учитывающих как количественные, так и качественные параметры, для минимизации загрязнения источников пресной воды, а также Финского залива биогенными и другими опасными элементами с урбанизированных территорий.

Achievements (FI):

RAINMAN hanke tutki ilmastonmuutoksen ja kaupungistumisen aiheuttamia haasteita makean veden varannoille Mikkelissä, Lahdessa, Helsingin metropolialueella ja Pietarissa. Tutkimustyön fokus oli tutkia sademäärien ja rankkasateiden muutosten mahdollisia vaikutuksia urbaanissa ympäristössä. Projekti kasvatti tietoutta ilmastonmuutoksen vaikutuksista pohjavesiin, pintavesiin and jätevesijärjestelmiin. Tätä tietoa hyödyntäen, soveltuvia sopeuttamistoimia integroitiin suoraan kaupunkien käytäntöihin (kuten jätevesien virtaaman seuranta Pietarissa tai myrskysade tiedonhallintajärjestelmä Helsingin metropolialueella). Tuloksia integroitiin myös kaupunkien vesien käsittelyä ohjaaviin dokumentteihin (pohjavesien suojelusuunnitelma Hanhikankaan vedenottamolle Mikkelissä ja luonnollisiin menetelmiin perustuva rankkasateiden hallinta Helsingin metropolialueella). Tuloksia ja tietoa julkaistiin myös hyödynnettäväksi ja integroitavaksi kaupunkien ohjaaviin asiakirjoihin ja säädöksiin (esim. Lahden pohjavesien suojelusuunnitelman päivitys tai Pietarin jätevesi ja vedenottoverkostojen rakentaminen). Achievements (EN):

The RAINMAN project examined the challenges posed by climate change and urban development to freshwater reservoirs in Mikkeli, Lahti, the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and St. Petersburg. The focus was on the potential impacts of changes in precipitation patterns and extreme rain events on the urban environment. The project provided deepened knowledge about the impacts of climate change on groundwater, surface water, and sewage systems. Based on this knowledge, suitable adaptation measures were either directly implemented (e.g. the monitoring wastewater flow in St. Petersburg or a stormwater data management system in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area), integrated into documents guiding urban water management (the groundwater protection plan for the Hanhikangas aquifer in Mikkeli and the report about Nature-based solutions for stormwater management in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area), or made available for the update of guiding documents and regulations (e.g. the update of the groundwater protection plan in Lahti and standard for the construction of water supply and sewerage networks in St. Petersburg).
