Description (EN): Corridor project’s overall objective is to promote "St. Petersburg - Saimaa Lakeland travel corridor" as a distinct collection of travel services combining two unique destinations into one any-season tourism experience.

Description (FI): Corridor hankkeen päätavoite on markkinoida “Pietari - Saimaan järvialue - matkailukäytävää” erottuvana, uniikkien kohteiden ja monipuolisten sekä laadukkaiden matkailupalvelujen ympärivuotisena kokemuksena.

Achievements (EN):

The aim of the St. Petersburg – Saimaa Lakeland travel corridor project was to develop new tourism offerings and co-operation between Lake Saimaa area, St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region in order to grow tourism business and to create new business opportunities for tourism service providers. Co-operation took place in tourism marketing, product development and sales. The project wanted to increase the awareness of both tour operators and tourists about the possibility of connecting these destinations in cross-border tourism. A brand concept “One destination of two distinct experiences” was created, which combines two different regions into one attracting travel destination. New customers were especially attracted from Central Europe, but the brand was promoted also for operators in Asia and the USA. A comprehensive destination manual with information about logistics, visa regime, services etc. was created. An information platform TravelCorridor.info was created. Other outputs include a podcast series, a VR tour of Imatra, brochures etc. In the Leningrad Region electronical information boards were installed with area information for tourists. A marketing research was conducted, and its results were utilized in product development. Totally 11 travel packages combining Russian and Finnish destinations were created for sale. The brand received good feedback, especially due to the easy way to combine destinations in both countries. At the end of the project it was expected that new products and travel packages would be created in the upcoming years and tourism flows would increase after the pandemic would have facilitated.

Achievements (FI):

Pietari – Saimaa -matkailukäytävähankkeen tavoitteena oli kehittää uutta matkailutarjontaa ja yhteistyötä Saimaan alueen, Pietarin ja Leningradin alueen välillä matkailualan kasvattamiseksi ja uusien liiketoimintamahdollisuuksien luomiseksi matkailupalvelutarjoajille. Yhteistyötä tehtiin matkailumarkkinoinnin, tuotekehityksen ja myynnin parissa. Hankkeella haluttiin lisätä sekä matkanjärjestäjien että matkailijoiden tietoisuutta mahdollisuudesta yhdistää kohteet rajat ylittävässä matkailussa. Hankkeessa luotiin brändikonsepti ”Yksi kohde, kaksi elämystä”, joka yhdistää kaksi eri aluetta yhdeksi houkuttelevaksi matkakohteeksi. Uusia asiakkaita houkutteltiin erityisesti Keski-Euroopasta, mutta brändiä tehtiin tunnetuksi myös Aasiassa ja Yhdysvalloissa. Hankkeessa luotiin kattava kohdeopas, joka sisältää tietoa kulkuyhteyksistä, viisumijärjestelyistä, palveluista jne. Tietoalusta TravelCorridor.info luotiin. Muita tuotoksia ovat podcast-sarja, VR-kierros Imatralla, esitteet jne. Leningradin alueelle asennettiin sähköiset infotaulut turisteja varten. Hankkeessa tehtiin markkinointitutkimus, jonka tuloksia hyödynnettiin tuotekehityksessä. Myyntiin luotiin yhteensä 11 matkapakettia, joissa yhdistyvät Venäjän ja Suomen kohteet. Brändi sai hyvää palautetta erityisesti helppoudesta yhdistellä molempien maiden kohteita. Projektin lopussa oletettiin, että tulevina vuosina syntyy uusia tuotteita ja matkapaketteja ja matkailuvirrat lisääntyisivät pandemian helpottua.
