Description (EN): SEVIRA project focus on assessing and modelling tools of environmental state review (like riverine runoff and nutrient load) of rivers and the coastal area and increasing general awareness and mapping improvement options and recommendations.

SEVIRA hankkeessa keskitytään arvioimaan ja mallintamaan menetelmiä ympäristövaikutusten (kuten jokivalumien ja ravinnekuormien) havainnointiin, joissa ja rannikkoalueilla sekä lisäämään yleistä ympäristötietoisuutta. Lisäksi hankkeessa kootaan vaihtoehtoja ja toimenpidesuosituksia kehittämistyölle.

В проекте SEVIRA основное внимание уделяется инструментам оценки, мониторинга и моделирования экологического состояния (например, уровня биогенной нагрузки) трансграничных акваторий и прибрежных зон, повышению осведомленности общественности о проблемах в этой сфере, разработке рекомендаций для дальнейшего развития.

Achievements (EN):

SEVIRA-project strengthened strongly important transboundary environmental activities between Finland and Russia. It served both the overall conservation and scientific project goals and raised public awareness and consciousness. Public awareness is a really key ingredient for positive environmental outcomes that also impact sustainable socio-economic objectives. Clarifying cross-border similarities and differences provided insights on how to best practically address and strengthen joint Finnish and Russian efforts on these important issues. Project added value included the following: An improved transboundary river monitoring system (the catchments of Virojoki, Rakkolanjoki/Seleznevka and Sestra located in Kymenlaakso, Leningrad region, St. Petersburg). The exchange of Finnish and Russian environmental information and methods increased. The exchange of accurate data increased environmental information for environmental administrations and citizen involvement. Experts are joining more in the public dialogue, providing new facts on the study area state of conservation.

SEVIRA projekti vahvisti eritäin tärkeää rajat ylittävää ympäristöyhteistyötä Suomen ja Venäjän välillä. Hankkeessa edistettiin sekä tieteellisen tutkimuksen tavoitteita että kansalaisten ympäristötietoisuuden kasvattamista. Yhteiskunnan ja kansalaisten ympäristötietoisuus on avain positiivisen muutoksen aikaan saamiseksi, joka vaikuttaa myös sosio-ekonomisiin tavoitteisiin. Rajat ylittävien yhtäläisyyksien ja erojen selkiyttäminen tarjosi näkökulmia siihen, kuinka parhaalla mahdollisella tavalla käytännössä vahvistaa Suomen ja Venäjän yhteisiä toimia näissä tärkeissä asioissa. Projekti tuotti lisäarvoa muun muassa seuraavasti: Parannettu rajat ylittävä jokien monitorointi järjestelmä (Virojoen, Rakkolanjoen ja Sestrajoen valuma-alueet Kymenlaakson, Leningradin ja Pietarin alueella). Suomalaisen ja Venäläisen ympäristötiedon ja metodien vaihto on lisääntynyt. Tarkan tiedon jakaminen lisäsi saatavilla olevaa tietoa ympäristöviranomaisille ja lisäsi kansalaisten osallisuutta. Hankkeen ansiosta asiantuntijat osallistuvat enemmän julkiseen keskusteluun, tarjoten uusia tietoja hankkeen tutkimusalueesta.
