Description (EN):

The general objective of ARGOS is to promote and apply a common integrated approach in the protection of marine resources and in the preservation of good environmental status of Adriatic sea, built upon both institutional and operative actions oriented to reduce directly and indirectly the human pressure by fisheries and aquaculture activities on marine habitats and species. Institutional actions provide a shared approach to common topics concerning the sustainable management of fisheries and aquaculture activities; operative actions provide the definition and the testing of shared protocols and schemes for the reduction of fish-related pressures on marine environment, in accordance with Programme and Strategic Theme Concepts. Such an integrated approach is based on the best available scientific advice as well as by operative stakeholders' for the application of common direct measures to increase the environmental and economic sustainability of fisheries and aquaculture activities. ARGOS sets up a common framework for governance where all Institutions competent for fisheries and aquaculture in the Programme area act as a whole in the management and protection of shared biological resources, under the best scientific guidance.

Expected Results (EN):

ARGOS leads to: 1) a consolidated framework for the institutional dialogue and for the building up of shared and coordinated policies for the protection of Adriatic marine resources, based on a scientific and inclusive approach; 2) the empowerment by the Adriatic institutions competent for the management of fisheries and aquaculture of an harmonised scenario and processes for the definition of responsible policy chooses oriented to both environmental and economic sustainability; 3) the availability of models and measures to reduce the human pressure made by fisheries and aquaculture activities on marine species and habitats, especially the protected ones; 4) an unique shared framework, composed by the several existing Adriatic databases on biological and socio-economic data, as a unique basis for a shared approach to the sustainable management of fisheries and aquaculture activities and the definition of relevant policies; 5) physical and immaterial tools available for stakeholders to improve the development and the circulation of the knowledge 6) a wider sectoral know-how owned by fisheries and aquaculture operators, as basis for the adoption of sustainable behaviours along the whole chain of fish products.

Expected Outputs (EN):

The institutional durability of ARGOS results is guaranteed by the PPs institutional profile which "per se" hold the relevant competencies for the introducing the project achievements in the day-by-day management and governance of marine recourses at regional and local level. Durability of physical interventions is supported by relevant PPs who commit to the maintenance of centres also after the project end. Also the scientific PPs commit in updating the developed analyses and studies tackling the Adriatic sea. Lastly the wide inclusive approach of ARGOS, in involving the main project target groups (fisheries and aquaculture operators) will ensure the ownership and the long term durability of sustainable behaviours tested by the project.
