Description (EN):

The project aims to improve the quality of surface waters in the Lower Danube region, through improved monitoring of the quality of surface waters and development of new methods of treating municipal and industrial waste waters. The project aims to increase cooperation between the research institutions from Romania and the Republic of Moldova to improve the state of environment in the Lower Danube region and increase the awareness of the target groups and final beneficiaries on the project results.

Expected Results (EN): Pollution maps issued on hot spots (4). New method developed to eliminate phenols (1). Collaboration strengthened between research institutions (2). Target groups informed about the project results (100). Patent on the developed method (1).

Expected Outputs (EN):

Photocatalyst synthesis (1) - Phenol mineralization with obtained NTD photocatalyst under UV irradiation in aqueous solution will be studied. Investigation of photocatalyst properties (1) - Optimal parameters of the photocatalysis process for the total pollutant degradation will be determined. Photocatalytic reactor (1) - A photocatalytic reactor will be designed and assembled. Data to develop maps on hot spots (1) - A database comprising global water quality indicator, respectively, the Water Quality Index (WQI), shared with competent authorities in the field of environmental protection. Data on oncogenic contaminants (1) - Statistical model for assessment and prediction of pollution with some oncogenic contaminants in studied areas, shared with the competent authorities in the field of environmental protection. Maps on hot spots in Lower Danube region (4) - Maps of the sampling stations and of the main sources of anthropogenic pollution. Pollution maps (confluence area Siret - Danube), (confluence Prut - Danube), (Distance Galati - Isaccea) and one consolidate map that includes the whole area to be investigated. Patent application (1) - A patent application on the new developed method of phenol mineralization with obtained NTD photocatalyst under UV irradiation in aqueous solution.
