BACKGROUND: In the EU, the involvement in social entrepreneurship (SE) is at a low level with less than 1% of the business population undertaking such activities. In view of the current societal developments, with public agencies providing fewer social services of general interest, non-profit organisations are diversifying income sources and mainstream enterprises are showing more interest in social innovation. There is a need to take heed of this in order to align their entrepreneurship education with work life, develop SE education and enhance it collaboratively with companies. OBJECTIVE AND ACTIVITIES: The objective of the project is to innovate aligned professional, higher education in social entrepreneurship in Degree Programmes in four CB area countries. The role of social enterprises varies across EU countries. In Finland and Sweden, policy documents on social entrepreneurship focus on work integration in social enterprises; in Estonia and Latvia, the situation is somewhat different. Hence, LAB University of Applied Sciences (FI), University of Tarto (EE), Riga Technical University (LV) and KTH Royal Institute of Technology (SWE) will share experiences and knowhow among partners in order to co-create new practice-based contents. We will develop entrepreneurship education, as well as create SE training for companies' continuing education. The aim is to strengthen the role of social entrepreneurship within the CB area in the long run. OUTPUTS: In-depth understanding of the state-of-the art of SE via company surveys: know-how of challenges and needs of SE in CB area. On the basis of this knowhow, we will innovate SE learning materials: new theory and practical case studies for improving the alignment of the curricula with society, as well as an aligned training module for companies. TRANSNATIONAL ADDED VALUE: Partners develop aligned barchelor level education courses, partners will share and co-create new SE content and insight.

Achievements (EN):

iSEE project innovated social entrepreneurship education. The project iSEE focused on developing study course about social entrepreneurship. The project resulted in 12 ECTS course which is targeted for students, and finetuned for the needs of entrepreneurs. To be able to create a need-based study course, the project collected information and data about social entrepreneurship from EU reports, and academic literature, and interviewed social enterprises and social enterprise organizations. Partners benchmarked social enterprises and ecosystem of social enterprises to create learning materials, to describe how they combine economic activities and social mission and how they define success. Lessons learned were put in practise during the intensive study week i.e., students from partner institutions (LAB University of Applied, University of Tartu, Riga Technical University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology) worked together with social entrepreneurship cases and topics and got familiar with the opportunities that social entrepreneurship could offer. The developed course “Social Entrepreneurship and social impact” contains the following parts: Sustainability in social enterprises Social business Modeling Global Ecosystem, Sectoral Ecosystems, Dynamic View CSR and social entrepreneurship

Expected Results (EN): R4.2. Increased share of aligned vocational education and training (VET) programmes in the Central Baltic region

Expected Outputs (EN):

The project contributes directly to the specific objective of the Call (more aligned vocational education and training programmes) by creating both new learning materials on social entrepreneurship, i.e. one (1) jointly created learning material package, as well as; a set of eight (8) new case studies to be used in applied science barchelor level education on social entrepreneurship. As a main result, curriculum modules minimum 10 ECTS on social entrepreneurship aligned with work life will be created for the four participating education institutions - as they are at a different level in the quantity and quality of social entrepreneurship related professional training; The new materials will be put to use in the project partners newly created aligned social entrepreneurship curricula modules. Finally, a training module addressed to companies will be created as professional continuing education to be offered by the project partners.
