Description (EN):

The transport system of the Central Baltic area is in need of better integration in order to take into account the mobility needs of the whole CB region. We need to increase traffic safety, efficiency, mobility and customer satisfaction across national borders, while reducing environmental impact. The project aims to contribute towards transport system that is safe, resilient, seamless and environmentally friendly for citizens, companies and society as a whole. To achieve this goal, project partners want to modernize transport and traffic management professional higher education (VET) curricula, learning processes, and learning environments. In the effort of harmonizing transport curricula we must take into account new insights and demands connected with transport infrastructure, driver behaviour, as well as both the physical and general business environment. Globally new technologies for vehicles are coming and traffic management will be key to handle negative impact of transport. The project partners, universities of applied sciences, address emerging development needs by creating a joint Intelligent Transport and Traffic Management study module (15 ECTS) and pilot it with multinational groups of students, together with methodology and materials that are applicable and replicable outside current partnership. Project results will be achieved in well-based combination of traditional, e-learning and using simulation environment. In order to tackle challenges posed by new technologies significant emphasis will be on integration of IT and telecommunications into transport and traffic safety management programmes. The expected outcome of the project is transport and traffic management education that better matches the needs of the CB enterprises and public sector where a greater number of employees will possess the skills and competences needed in the current international labour market.

Achievements (EN):

Intelligent Transport and Traffic Management study module was developed. Project partners developed jointly a harmonized and modernized Intelligent Transport and Traffic Management study module (15 ECTS) and teaching methodology focused on transport and traffic safety management. The study module was developed by experts from three participating countries Estonia, Finland and Latvia. Different traffic and study conditions in countries were discussed and integrated into the study module. Joint study module was piloted with multinational groups of students. Integrating the harmonized and modernized Intelligent Transport and Traffic Management study module to partner schools’ curriculum is expected to stimulate more cross border workflow as the education the students receive is common in all three countries. This also helps to increase traffic safety, efficiency, mobility and customer satisfaction across national borders, while reducing environmental impact. In addition to the study module, relevant teaching and study materials, structured e-learning materials, teaching methodology for using simulation tools and common virtual study and teaching environment usage plan were developed.

Expected Outputs (EN):

The main results of the project are: 1. Jointly developed harmonized and modernized Intelligent transport and traffic management module (15 ECTS) and teaching methodology focused on transport and traffic safety management. The module takes into account labour market demands, regional differences, and relevant EU directives. The module will be used by partner organisations for both full-time students, distance learners and in-service training programme participants and will be disseminated to other transport education institutions in surrounding countries in the CB region in order to facilitate a common understanding and cooperation. Graduates of the harmonized and modernized module joining the workforce in the regional transport sector will significantly improve its quality and thus facilitate common understanding that will lead to smooth and safe cross-border transportation within the common transport area. 2. Teaching and study materials necessary to carry out the modules. 3. E-learning methodology and e-learning materials to carry out the modules, with the support of the e-learning platforms of the partners. Materials will include instructional videos, animations, and interactive exercises and will be structured using adaptive learning techniques, which take the needs of the individual into account. 4. Teaching methodology for joint use of the simulation tools. 5. Common study environment usage plan to enhance regional cooperation and a more efficient use of resources in each partner organisation. A traditional e-learning environment will be combined with simulation tools to facilitate consistent use by all three partners.
