Description (EN):

The Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information (SCSTI) - Slovakia together with the University of Belgrade (UoB) - Serbia created a new team responsible for the coordination of the PA7 “To develop the Knowledge Society (research, education, and ICT)” within the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR). Based on the previous years of cooperation between Slovakia and Serbia, both countries decided to continue in their common effort and focus the new project in the upcoming period 2020-2023 foremost on improving the effectiveness of PA7 coordination, supporting the PA7 Steering Group members and stakeholders in implementing EUSDR, enhancing policy development and policy initiatives, communication and increased visibility of the PA and dissemination of PA’s achievements, as well as capitalisation activities within EUSDR and beyond.

Expected Results (EN): The status of management capacities of Priority Area Coordinators (PAC) to effectively implement EUSDR goals, targets and key action (survey composite indicator)

Expected Outputs (EN):

From the Metis findings on the effectiveness, communication and stakeholder involvement of the EUSDR we learnt that the overall impact of the strategy is still not very high and that the momentum of EUSDR has decreased (Metis report, 2019). According to the Metis results coordinated funding of projects, better cooperation and better governance are needed most in the Danube Region. Therefore the second edition of the PAC7 project (2020-2022) will result foremost to the improved effectiveness of PA7 overall coordination and governance system (mainly connected to the day-to-day cooperation between PACs - regular PAC to PAC meetings organized face-to face back to back to the meetings of EUSDR and PA7 strategic importance as well as virtual meetings; active engagement and involvement of SG members and revitalisation of the current WGs). Cross-fertilisation and capitalisation activities between PA7 and the DTP thematic poles, other programmes and projects (authorities as well as project partners), other priority areas, and other macroregional strategies will be contributing to the improving of the existing cooperation mechanisms and networks or creating new ones. As the added-value can be considered also continuing focus and support of the funding coordination and complementarity of existing funding sources (within WG on DFCN activities and valorisation and wider take-up of the results of already funded projects via different schemes). Nonetheless we believe that thank to the PAC project implementation we will be able to contribute to design the future transnational cooperation in the knowledge society area, to fill in the knowledge-gaps by linking actors with complementary thematic specialisation, experiences and/or methodological approaches, to increase the visibility of the strategy, projects and the programme and to ensure their impact on the policy making process at local, regional, national and European levels.
