Description (EN):

The main aim of the project is the development of cross-border tourism through better use of historical facilities to promote the cultural and historical heritage of Olecko and Ozersk. The activities on the Polish side of the border included a restoration of a historic building from 1897, popularly known as the “Castle”. There were performed, among others, the following reconstruction works: renovation of the brick surface of the walls, partial replacement of the window joinery with wooden joinery and renovation of the exterior and interior door joinery. In Ozersk, on the other hand, it is foreseen to reconstruct the local school's surroundings, a room for a museum and an assembly hall as well as to purchase the conference and concert equipment. Promotional activities planned in the project include organisation of an opening conference in Olecko, exchange of good practices and the Festival of Small Towns in Ozersk. The youth from secondary schools will also be involved in active participation in the project. Within the project, students and teachers will learn about the regions on both sides of the border and prepare promotional materials for the facilities. In addition, a publication about the Olecko “Castle” is also being prepared, which will enable to disseminate the little-known documents, map sketches, photos and information.

Expected Results (EN): Increased number of visitors to the historical heritage and cultural sites. Baseline value – 300, target value – 900.

Number of cross-border cultural events organised using the Programme support – 1. Number of improved cultural, historical, touristic and natural sites as a direct consequence of programme support – 2. Number of organisations using programme support for promoting local culture and preserving historical heritage – 1.
