Increase of the usage of new technologies and innovations in the field of renewable energy provided by promotion and support to researches and innovations in a sustainable way in the border regions of Ukraine and Romania. Establishment of a strong platform for joint research actions and studies (including related equipment procurement) in the field of renewable energy and resource efficiency.

Expected Results (EN):

Creation of the institutional and informational basis for conducting common theoretical and practical baseline researches on efficient energy consumption in border regions of Romania and Ukraine with the focus on universities and practical introductions in the communities. Achievement of specific objective1 will be provided through the establishment of specialized Energy Innovation Centres and Energy Laboratories in border regions of Romania and Ukraine for providing researches, energy monitoring, efficiency and renewable energy sources using and providing support for communities and young specialists as well as students; creating trained teams in each partner region through common trainings of the personnel that will be running the centre which will then be able to teach and advice the visitors on sustainable energy and climate change issues, holding thematic workshops, trainings and best practices exchange sessions; Introduction of the Cross-Border Cooperation Smart Energy Concept in the border regions of Romania and Ukraine through holding joint research actions and establishment of the common institutional basis. Providing innovative approach in energy efficiency and renewable energy sources in border regions through the development the Cross-Border Cooperation Energy Concept for pilot communities and universities is based on the clusters approach “Universities-Communities”; strengthening cross-border cooperation; facilitating the exchange of experience and best practices between the partners and pilot communities regarding regional sustainable energy strategies, awareness and education policies, actions and projects carried out in their region through workshops and study tours organized in each partner region. Achievement of the specific objective 2 will be provided through performing energy audits in main buildings of the universities and in pilot communities in Romania and Ukraine. They are finalized at conclusions with action plans for implementing innovative energy efficiency technologies; Promotion of the renewable energy and resources efficiency through implementing common researches initiatives, Established Energy Laboratories for communities in Suceava and Uzhhorod aimed at energy monitoring, development of the new solutions for pilot communities and locations, preparing the specialists for energy management after the implementation of the new complex technical and logistic installations in the two regions; introduction of the training programmes in energy management in Romania and Ukraine; sharing experience of Romanian Institutions in energy management; functioning of the energy component of the CBC Smart Laboratories in border regions.

Expected Outputs (EN):

1 SmartEnergy informational and institutional platforms for new technologies and innovations promotion; 2 EnergySmart Innovation Centres and Laboratories are planned to be established: 1 laboratory in Suceava and 1 laboratory in Uzhhorod. 2 operators in each Laboratory will be employed. Besides, Energy Smart Laboratory office for communities will be created; 12 Developments of Energy Measure Plans with new technology and innovative solutions for local communities as well as campuses in Romania and Ukraine. 3 local communities and 3 locations / buildings in Ukraine and 3 local communities and 3 locations in Romania will be included in these Energy Measure Plans; 1 Development and introduction of a new educational course in Uzhhorod National University (Ukraine): "Energy management with energy audit"; 12 students and teachers from Ukraine and Romania will receive additional skills and knowledge in the new technologies in energy.
