BRIDGE is a three-year innovation project of some sixty firms from Norway, Russia, and Finland and up to 200 exam candidates from five universities in the Barents Region looking for job opportunities and a better-prepared entrance into their work life.Work methods chosen are problem-based international teamwork, taking initiative on behalf of business clients, act interdisciplinary in order to obtain best possible results, bring together motivations of both firms and students, which would mean to combine product and service development with working on master- and bachelor theses.

Achievements (EN):

Around 260 students from the five partner universities worked out business proposals for fifty-five companies in the Barents Region, not only new marketing strategies and products, but also some potential cross-border business relationships. Assignments from 58 case companies and public organizations and respective business proposal submitted by 61 international student teams are publicly available at https://kolarcticbridge.com/index.php/cases-and-companies/ . As generally demanded by companies, many of the participating undergraduates achieved a more realistic insight into job opportunities and common challenges in business life. The most active students personally valued cross-border networking, their insight into foreign business cultures and international market conditions, the teamwork across disciplines, and practicing language skills. BRIDGE has remained a learning environment and a network also after the project end.

Expected Results (EN):

The result is economic growth of small companies through a system of competence and innovation brokering. Border-crossing innovation projects done by graduation candidates from partner universities will enable reasonable market size for new products and services with special obligation for natural and cultural capital of the region. Goal is to make competence and innovation brokering through university partnership a permanently and daily available option for small companies especially in rural areas. University graduates shall pracically broaden their awareness of job opportunities and so be attracted as first-time employees to the region. As strongly demanded by companies, graduates will significantly enhance their employability through innovation-based cooperation with a business client.

Expected Outputs (EN):

1.1 Innovative Cross-border focused business proposals. 1.2 B2B and B2C relationships across borders. 1.3 Strengthen small tourism companies’ benefits from mass tourism. 1.4 Enhanced network and performance of university spin-offs (Karelia). 2.1 Business proposals with improved value added through solving environmental issues in a value chain. 2.2 Implemented environmentally relevant products and services. 3.1 Brokering service for SME at partner universities established. 3.2 SME follow up the project; new companies joining the system. 3.3 Network Instruction manuals for companies. 4.1 BA and Master's theses reflecting self-actualization, employability features and cross-border business performance. 4.2 Case documentations for followers. 5.1 Research providing education with models of employability enhancement. 5.2 Established university staff for basic-level innovation brokering. 5.3 Established university courses focusing on cross-border business tasks. 6.1 Connected innovation brokering service with career guidance at universities.
