Description (EN):

The process of carrying out a joint strategy-level document for the transport of the Barents Region in the state level (Joint Barents Transport Plan, JBTP) started during in 2012 and the document has been updated during the recent years. Now it is time to implement the strategy in the regional level. The project shall facilitate the platform where the authorities responsible for of co-ordinating of the regional development in the Barents Region can agree upon implementation of the Joint Barents Transport Plan. The target groups are the regional authorities of the Barents Region who are responsible for regional development and especially transport and logistics questions. The beneficiaries are people of the project area who are now suffering from timely non-accessible and other ways limited border crossings and transport networks and who will benefit of improved opportunities of fluent mobility of people, goods and knowledge. As well, the beneficiaries are the transport modes serving the Barents Region and business benefiting of the lower transport costs, which makes their products more competitive in the World market.

Achievements (EN):

The main activities of the BRTL project included seven (7) project reports/studies and dissemination of them among the stakeholders, both national and regional authorities and different actors by arranging and participating in various events. The Project increased awareness and the level of knowledge on the World transport market and impacts on the Barents region and better understanding of some specific topics described in the project reports, such as World Transport Market and Logistics, Green Transport and ITS projects relevant to the Barents Euroarctic Region. The project results were disseminated to stakeholders mainly through different events and meetings with presentations. Project manager was invited to many meetings to present the progress of the project. The project was targeted to the regional and national work group members (Barents Regional Working Group on Transport and Logistics BRWGTL and Steering Committee for Barents Euro-Arctic Transport Area BEATA), but it also served authorities and politicians, regional land use planning and transport planning institutions in the Barents Region. Besides these, the project results can be used by other stakeholders too and hopefully this will happen

Expected Results (EN):

The project will put in practice (implement), in the regional level, the results of the state level multilateral process in the Barents Region where a joint strategy document for the transport of the Barents Region (the Joint Barents Transport Plan, JBTP by BEATA) started during the Norwegian chairmanship 2012 and is being updated now during the on-going Russian chairmanship

Expected Outputs (EN):

1. Report on the current situation of the main transport corridors inside Barents Region and integrating the Region into European and World level corridors and stating the proposed/analysed transport development and investment needs and processes taking place in the Barents Region. 2. Report on examining the practical problems in current Barents Region transport through case studies. 3. Seminar. 4. Report on summarizing the World transport and logistics market and their impacts on the Barents Region. 5. Opening the “Green Transport” concept and its meaning to Barents Region. As well a workshop will be organized. Output 5: report on the current/planned, public/private ITS - projects in transport and logistics and concerning and relevant to the Barents region and the results of participation of BRTL project to a new ITS-project in Kolarctic area. Seminar on the topic. 6. Report summarizing the BRTL- project in the form of the transport cross-border cooperation “Action Plan” + seminar. 7. Dissemination of the results.
