Description (EN):

Agrofore project is about agroforestry; it develops and tests combinations of diversified farming systems which integrate trees, shrubs, other plants and livestock production. The project seeks to achieve better understanding on how agroforestry systems function in Barents region in different kinds of environments, The project will demonstrate the benefits and viability of agroforestry systems and promote their adoption in the region

Achievements (EN):

The project has carried out profitability analysis of agroforestry farming concepts. It has surveyed the traditional use of non-timber forest products on the different countries and regions of the programme area, and the practices which may have the most potential in the future. There are piloting report of some selected agroforestry activities – including evaluations of the results. A pilot version for a virtual tool for modelling and planning of agroforestry activities has been established The project boosted a very active knowledge and experience exchange between nature product experts on the programme area, which has enhanced a future cooperation

Expected Results (EN):

AgroFore will improve the socio-economic prosperity of Barents region in agriculture and forerstry. The project will lower the sectorial bounds between agriculture and forestry. Developed agro-forestry concepts, especially forest farming will increase production and use of forest-based raw materials. This will boost the economic growth of Barents region SME business relying on renewable forest-based raw materials

Expected Outputs (EN):

1.1. Report of State-of-the-art of agroforestry research in Barents Region. 1.2. Report of State-of-the-art of traditional use of non-timber forest products in the Barents Region. 1.3. Report of state-of-the-art of current agroforestry practices with potential to be developed to true agroforestry. 2.1. Piloting report of chosen agroforestry activities at each partner area. 2.2. Evaluation report of the results of piloting activities. 3.1. Virtual tool for modelling and planning agroforestry activities. 4.1. Profitability analysis of agro-forestry farming concept. 5.1. Solid management of the project. 6.1. Detailed dissemination plan. 6.2. Project web pages. 6.3. Seminars and publications based on dissemination plan.
