The project I2P aims at modernizing the manufacturing industry by substantially building knowledge on 3D-printing, also termed additive manufacturing, of metal parts. This will enhance the awareness on opportunities and limitations of this promising technique. Accelerated implementation of 3D-printing in production is expected, promoting business, employment and attractiveness in the region. From each of the four countries one university group and one SME or SME-association participates, composing complementary competence at high level. A pilot 3D-printer for metals will be installed, to test but also improve the technique. Technical, economic and environmental knowledge will be built and disseminated, via a new cooperation platform and advanced web-conferencing, to many companies, to generate promising ideas.

Expected Results (EN):

Summarizing, the specific objective is to have at the end of the project established a fundament of knowledge and resources in 3D-printing, tailored to the region, that can be further used after the project, including even a 3D-printer system for metals. Based on technical knowledge, economic and environmental knowledge aspects will be developed as well, particularly in form of guidelines and best practice examples. Physical demonstrator parts will be available and demonstrator SME-companies will pave the way for successful consideration, piloting, adaption and implementation of 3D-printing of metal parts. A cooperation platform with a corresponding organisation will be developed, for vital cooperation and mutual support during and after the project.
