Description (EN):

IMPRESS aims at accumulating, critically analyzing and distributing information on the potential climate change adaptation measures across Barents sea region. We aim to establish efficient information sharing web-based tool in the area of sustainable forest management of high latitude forests. To reach this goal IMPRESS will rely on a expertise of project members in forest management and outreach activities, which will be supported through a cooperation with major players on the regional timber market and evaluation of emerging approaches in Russian forestry, which draw heavily on the experience of Scandinavian management. IMPRESS will analyse and secure forest landscape sustainability under various management and climate regimes, develop online tool for sharing information of emerging sustainable forest use practices and promote for an active hearing between the forest stakeholders.

Expected Results (EN): Securing the boreal forest landscape providing for the increased attractiveness of the Barents forests for the timber supply, livelihood activities and environmental tourism

Expected Outputs (EN):

1.1. Best FMS practices are identified, discussed, shared and justified leading to the establishment of the demo areas for future joint activities and development training courses for foresters. 1.2. Landscape and climate resilience plans are developed, discussed with the stakeholders and presented to timber companies. 2.1. FMS web tool is active cultivating and sharing forest knowledge. 2.2. Web tool is presented and positioned as a modern and useful tool for FMS practices. 3.1. Networking between target groups is increased for common understanding of the value of the Barents forests. 3.2. Dialogue between business timber companies and forest state services increases transparency and good management practices of decision making both of state control and business planning.
