Applying lightweight solutions is the most efficient approach to make transport greener (Lucintel’18; McK’12). However, SME suppliers of auto and aero parts in NWE encounter severe challenges to define optimal lightweighting: auto struggles to integrate the most advanced materials; aero, to reach acceptable costs and production speeds. Each sector uniquely excels in specific areas: e.g. auto leads automated mass manufacturing and aero, materials performance. To effectively adopt feasible lightweight solutions, more affordable and environmentally-friendly innovations must be co-developed across the value chain: market-pull from demand side will stimulate a competitiveness increase of supplier SMEs, while contributing to reduce overall CO2 transport emissions. RIGHTWEIGHT will support 50+ manufacturing SMEs in auto & aero value chains to deliver components meeting car/aircraft makers’ needs. 20+ novel lightweight products will be incubated to TRL7 by 2022, improving environmental performance and greater value-for-money via an open cross-sectorial process combining educational activities and transnational thematic competitions in 5 cross-cutting areas within lightweight: 1) materials supply & development, 2) characterization & modelling, 3) design & smart functions, 4) manufacturing & assembly and 5) recycling. Partners will provide dedicated training in specialised complementary fieldlabs. 5 countries with auto and aero relevance (RIS3) will be involved, leveraging leader-follower synergies: FR (aero), DE and BE (auto), NL (both) and IT (strong in both). 50+ end-users (large demand actors) from 7 regions are already committed (assoc. part.). RIGHTWEIGHT will pioneer to stimulate cross-sectorial transfer between actors now operating in one value chain with dedicated transnational sessions (also inviting peer projects) and a novel database of success cases. We will anchor €10M turnover & 100 jobs in NWE, while generating €2M turnover & 50 jobs by 2022.

Leichtbaulösungen sind der effizienteste Ansatz, den Verkehr umweltfreundlicher zu gestalten (Lucintel'18;McK'12). Kleine und mittlere Auto- und Luftfahrtzulieferer in NWE stehen vor großen Aufgaben, um eine optimale Leichtbauweise zu definieren: die Autoindustrie kämpft damit, moderne Materialien zu integrieren, die Luftfahrt, akzeptable Kosten und Produktionsgeschwindigkeiten zu erreichen. Jeder Sektor zeichnet sich besonders aus: die Autoindustrie ist führend in der automatisierten Massenfertigung, die Luftfahrtindustrie in der Materialleistung. Um machbare Leichtbaulösungen effektiv zu übernehmen, müssen erschwingliche und umweltfreundliche Innovationen über die Wertschöpfungskette hinweg mitentwickelt werden: Der Markt-Pull wird die KMU-Wettbewerbsfähigkeit steigern und zu reduzierten CO2-Emissionen beitragen RIGHTWEIGHT wird 50+ KMU darin unterstützen Teile zu liefern, die Herstellerbedürfnissen entsprechen. 20+ Leichtbauprodukte werden bis 2022 inkubiert (TRL7), um Umweltleistung und Preis-Leistung in einem sektorübergreifenden Prozess zu verbessern, der Fortbildung und transnationale Wettbewerbe in 5 Leichtbauquerschnittsbereichen kombiniert: 1)Materialversorgung & Entwicklung, 2)Charakterisierung & Modellierung, 3)Design & intelligente Funktionen, 4)Fertigung Montage, 5)Recycling. Partner werden eine spezielle Ausbildung in komplementären Feldlaboren anbieten 5 Länder mit Industrierelevanz (RIS3) sind beteiligt, wobei Synergien zw. führenden und folgenden genutzt werden: FR (Luftfahrt), DE, BE (Auto), NL (beide) und IT (beide).50+ Endnutzer (Großnachfrage) aus 7 Regionen sind bereits engagiert (ass. Partner) RIGHTWEIGHT wird eine Vorreiterrolle bei der Förderung des sektorübergreifenden Transfers zw. Akteuren einnehmen, durch transnationale Einheiten (Peer-Projekte werden eingeladen) und eine neue Success-Case-Datenbank 10Mio.€ Umsatz, 100 Arbeitsplätze werden in NWE verankert und 2Mio. €Umsatz und 50 Arbeitsplätze bis 2022 geschaffen

Selon McK 12’, l’utilisation de matériaux légers est l’approche la plus efficace pour rendre le transport plus écologique. En ENO, les PME fournisseurs de pièces automobiles et aéronautiques rencontrent de graves difficultés à définir un allégement optimal: le secteur auto intègre mal les matériaux avancés et le secteur aéro, à atteindre des coûts et vitesses de production acceptables. Chaque secteur excelle dans certains domaines: l’auto, dans la fabrication de masse automatisée et l’aéro, dans la performance des matériaux. Pour adopter efficacement ces solutions, des innovations moins couteuses et respectueuses de l'environnement doivent être développées. Ces solutions stimuleront le marché et fomenteront une augmentation de la compétitivité parmi les PME, tout en réduisant les émissions de CO2 liées au transport.RIGHTWEIGHT soutiendra 50 PME auto et aéro pour fournir des composants répondant aux besoins de ces deux marchés. 20 nouveaux produits seront amenés au TRL7 d'ici 2022, améliorant leurs performances environnementales et leur rapport qualité-prix via des activités éducatives et des compétitions dans 5 domaines: l'approvisionnement et le développement de matériaux, caractérisation et modélisation, conception et fonctions intelligentes, fabrication et assemblage et recyclage. Les partenaires dispenseront aussi des formations spécialisées.5 pays investit dans ces deux secteurs(RIS3) seront impliqués, en tirant parti des synergies leader-suiveur : FR(aéro), DE et BE(auto), NL et IT(les deux). Plus de 50 utilisateurs finaux de 7 régions partenaires sont déjà engagés (partenaires associés).RIGHTWEIGHT jouera un rôle pionnier en stimulant la collaboration auto/aéro entre ces deux acteurs qui opèreront maintenant dans une seule chaîne de valeur ainsi que la création d’une base de données des cas fructueux. Au total, 10M€ de chiffre d'affaires et100 emplois dans l'ENO seront renouvelés, tout en générant 2M€ de CA & 50 emplois d'ici 2022.

Expected Outputs (EN): Current SMEs’ lightweight solutions don’t meet car/aircraft maker needs. Solutions close to target are at lab scale (TRL3) and take 5 years to TRL 7. Performance is 120 gCO2/km for auto and 115 g CO2/pax/km for aero and material costs in auto 10-50 €/kg.
