Description (EN):

The project will provide the basis for the connection of the Kvarken connection to the TEN-T network, which aims to develop the logistics system in a more efficient and environmentally friendly direction. Project description: The Kvarken region has been granted EU funding for phase I of the TEN-T project Midway Alignment of the Bothnian Corridor — Kvarken Multimodal Link, with the aim of upgrading the Kvarken connection by, among other things, developing a new customised ferry for Kvarken and making ports and the entire regional logistics system more efficient and environmentally friendly. MABA becomes an important complement to Midway Alignment, and strengthens the conditions for achieving the region’s common objectives; a functioning environmentally friendly infrastructure path in the east-west direction. Within the project, the basis for connection to the TEN-T network will be developed and the project will also contribute to anchoring and disseminating knowledge about the Kvarken route in the municipalities in the Botnia-Atlantica region as well as among key actors in the Baltic Sea region.

Projektet kommer att ta fram underlag för Kvarkenförbindelsens anslutning till TEN-T nätverket vars målsättning är att utveckla logistiksystemet i en mer effektiv och miljövänlig riktning. Projektbeskrivning: Kvarkenregionen har beviljats EU-finansiering för fas I av TEN-T projektet Midway Alignment of the Bothnian Corridor - Kvarken Multimodal Link, med syfte att uppgradera Kvarkenförbindelsen genom att bl.a. utveckla en ny specialanpassad färja för Kvarken samt göra hamnarna och hela det regionala logistiksystemet effektivare och mer miljövänligt. MABA blir ett viktigt komplement till Midway Alignment, och stärker förutsättningarna för att uppnå regionens gemensamma målsättning; ett fungerande miljövänligt infrastrukturstråk i öst-västlig riktning. Inom projektet kommer underlag för anslutning till TEN-T nätverket att tas fram och projektet ska också bidra till att förankra och sprida kunskap om Kvarkenstråket i kommunerna i Botnia-Atlanticaregionen samt hos nyckelaktörer i Östersjöregionen.

Achievements (EN):

MABA has contributed to the specific objective of ”Increased number of strategies connected to sustainable transportation links in east-west direction” by, among other things, highlighting the TEN-T problems at the national and EU levels, analyzed the financial feasibility and economic viability of a new ferry investment (through Financial Engineering pre-study and Detailed Financial Engineering study), analyzed the endorsement of a ferry investment in terms of public economy (through Impact Analysis), started a new form of cooperation with Mittnorden committee, companies in the Kvarken region and industry and commerce organizations in Narvik, as well as through the project’s extensive information dissemination at the national and EU levels, which has attracted the region’s transport problems a lot of attention.
