Il progetto i-WaveNET si propone di realizzare una rete innovativa di osservazione dello stato del mare basata sull’integrazione di diverse tecnologie, quali HF-radar, sensori sismici, sensori di livello del mare, boe ondametriche, stazioni meteo. Grazie al progetto, la rete di sensori meteo e di sistemi HF-Radar esistente sarà quindi integrata da nuove installazioni in punti strategici dell’area tranfrontaliera. I dati provenienti dall’installazione delle nuove strumentazioni verranno confrontati e resi omogenei al fine di mettere a punto un Sistema di Supporto alle Decisioni (DSS). Tale sistema consentirà alle parti interessate (enti locali e nazionali) di prendere le decisioni strategiche necessarie per la mitigazione del rischio costiero legato ad eventi estremi potenzialmente catastrofici nell’area del canale di Sicilia. A causa del cambiamento climatico, anche nel Canale di Sicilia si sono intensificati gli eventi meteo-marini estremi che causano catastrofi, innalzando così il livello di rischio proveniente dal mare. I dati delle diverse reti di rilevazione dello stato del mare attualmente operative non sono esaustivi e ciò sia per quelle che si trovano vicino la costa meridionale della Sicilia che per quelle che si trovano nei pressi delle coste di Malta. Il progetto si propone quindi di realizzare un’azione di sistema transfrontaliera utile a mitigare il rischio costiero.

Description (EN):

The i-WaveNET project aims to create an innovative network of sea state observation based on the integration of different technologies, such as HF-radar, seismic sensors, sea level sensors, wave buoys, weather stations. Thanks to the project, the existing network of weather sensors and HF-Radar systems will be integrated with new installations at strategic points in the cross-border area. The data from the installation of the new instruments will be compared and made homogeneous in order to develop a Decisions Supporting System (DSS). This system will allow stakeholders (local and national authorities) to take the strategic decisions necessary for the mitigation of coastal risk linked to potentially catastrophic extreme events in the Area of the Strait of Sicily. Due to climate change, extreme weather-marine events that cause disasters have also intensified in the Strait of Sicily, thus raising the level of risk coming from the sea. The data of the various sea state detection networks currently in operation, both for those near the southern coast of Sicily and for those located near the coasts of Malta, are not exhaustive. The project therefore aims to carry out a cross-border system action useful to mitigate coastal risk.

Expected Results (IT): 3.000 di kmq di area coperta dalle reti di misura implementate; 5.000 km2 di area coperta dal sistema di monitoraggio integrato; 5.000 kmq di area del dominio del sistema DSS, che potrà essere consultato dagli enti territoriali mediante interfaccia web-gis

Expected Results (EN): 3,000 sq km of area covered by the implemented measurement networks; 5,000 sq km of area covered by the integrated monitoring system; 5,000 sq km of domain area of the DSS system, which can be consulted by the territorial authorities via web-gis interface.

- 3.000 kmq su cui verrà creata una rete di strumentazione altamente integrata attraverso nuove installazioni e attraverso l’aggiornamento del sistema CODAR HF esistente per il potenziamento del sistema WERA radar a Capo Granitola - 3.000 kmq coperti da un data processing ed una calibrazione dei sistemi di misura - 5.000 kmq coperti da misurazione e registrazione di dati che costituiranno un dataset omogeneo nel tempo e nello spazio - 5.000 kmq coperti da un dataset sullo stato del mare modellato su griglia regolare - 5.000 kmq coperti da un sistema di monitoraggio in tempo reale dello stato fisico del mare - 5.000 kmq coperti da un Sistema di Supporto alle Decisioni (DSS) costituito da una piattaforma informatica e progettato al fine di elaborare informazioni sui parametri meteo-marini a supporto di specifiche attività, quali: monitoraggio ambientale, sicurezza della navigazione, sorveglianza per scopi di protezione civile e marittima

- 3,000 sq km of surface on which a highly integrated instrumentation network will be created through new installations and through the upgrade of the existing CODAR HF system for the upgrading of the WERA radar system at Capo Granitola - 3,000 kmq covered by a processing data and a calibration of the measuring systems - 5,000 sq km covered by measurement and recording of data that will constitute a homogeneous dataset over time and space - 5,000 sq km covered by a dataset on the state of the sea modelled on a regular grid - 5,000 sq km covered by a real-time monitoring system of the physical state of the sea - 5,000 sq km covered by a Decisions Supporting System (DSS) consisting of a computer platform designed in order to elaborate information on weather-marine parameters to support specific activities, such as: environmental monitoring, maritime safety, surveillance for civil and maritime protection purposes
