The Breitachklamm is a narrow gorge that has worked deep through the rock in tens of thousands of years through its water. The river Breitach originates in the Austrian Kleinwalsertal, crosses the gorge for a total length of almost 2 kilometres and flows over Bavarian territory into the Iller. The Breitach has always had two entrances: one on the German side in the village of Tiefenbach, the other on the Austrian side via the Walserschanz directly on the German-Austrian border. The Breitachklamm was opened in 1904 and has been used for tourism since 1905. For over 100 years, the nature-powered Klamm tourism magnet has been for more than 300,000 visitors every year who want to experience the uniqueness of this natural beauty. Unbelievable, but true, there has never been a sustainable overall concept. Cummerer of this gorge is the Breitachklammverein eG, in which both Germans and Austrians are members. The cooperative maintains the pathways and bridges and handles the day-to-day tourist operation summer and winter. The demands and expectations of visitors have changed and in order to remain attractive, it is high time to professionalise the operation by means of an action concept and to make it fit for the future. In doing so, the force of nature must continue to be preserved and protected. In INTERREG III in the early 2000s, a film about the formation of clothing and its seasons was promoted and a three-dimensional diorama was created by the gorge, which brought visitors closer to the topography. The Walserschanz, a customs station since 1786, has been empty since 2013 and is to become a “signpost” of the Breitachklamm in the action concept at a high-frequency location. About the future use of the property, an INTERREG small project (Evs 36) was organised an international ideas competition, the results of which are included in the action concept.

Die Breitachklamm ist eine enge Schlucht, die sich in zig Tausenden von Jahren durch ihr Wasser tief durch den Felsen gearbeitet hat. Der Fluss Breitach entspringt im österreichischen Kleinwalsertal, durchquert die Klamm auf einer Länge von insgesamt knapp 2 Kilometern und fließt über bayerisches Gebiet in die Iller. Die Breitach hat seit jeher zwei Eingänge: einen auf deutscher Seite im Ort Tiefenbach, den anderen auf österreichischer Seite über die Walserschanz direkt an der deutsch-österreichischen Grenze. Die Breitachklamm wurde im Jahr 1904 erschlossen und seit 1905 touristisch genutzt. Seit über 100 Jahren ist die naturgewaltige Klamm Tourismusmagnet für jährlich über ca. 300.000 Besucher, die die Einzigartigkeit dieser Naturschönheit erleben möchten. Unglaublich, aber wahr, es gab noch nie ein nachhaltiges Gesamtkonzept. Kümmerer dieser Klamm ist die Breitachklammverein eG, in der sowohl Deutsche als auch Österreicher Mitglied sind. Die Genossenschaft unterhält die Wege- und Brückenanlagen und wickelt den touristischen Tagesbetrieb Sommer wie Winter ab. Die Ansprüche und Erwartungen der Besucher haben sich geändert und um weiter attraktiv zu bleiben, ist es höchste Zeit, den Betrieb mittels eines Handlungskonzepts zu professionalisieren und für die Zukunft fit zu machen. Dabei muss die Naturgewalt weiterhin erhalten und geschützt werden. In INTERREG III wurde Anfang der 2000er Jahre ein Film über die Klammentstehung und seine Jahreszeiten gefördert und ein dreidimensionales Diorama von der Klamm erstellt, das den Besuchern die Topografie näher brachte. Die Walserschanz, seit 1786 eine Zollstation, steht seit 2013 leer und soll in dem Handlungskonzept an hochfrequentierter Stelle ein "Aushängeschild" der Breitachklamm werden. Über die zukünftige Nutzung der Immobilie wurde mittels eines INTERREG Kleinprojekts (Evs 36) ein internationaler Ideenwettbewerb durchgeführt, dessen Ergebnisse in das Handlungskonzept aufgenommen werden.
