Cross-border area is characterized with rich cultural and historical heritage buildings in ownership of local municipalities that are obliged to take care of their assets and infrastructure. Unfortunately, common situation for all cross-border cities is lack of funding for refurbishment of buildings and strategy for refurbishment, what leads to reduced attractiveness of public spaces and consequently to insufficient use of valuable cultural heritage. When planning the refurbishment of public buildings, each municipality needs to focus on energy efficiency as a tool that can significantly reduce maintenance costs. Investing in energy efficiency is important element for achieving the objectives of Europe 2020 strategy in a field of sustainable growth. Increase of energy efficiency in public buildings is especially highlighted in this particular strategy. One of the problems is also lack of plans and strategic documents for refurbishment of cultural heritage buildings. Therefore, development of plans and strategy as well as introduction with possibilities of energy refurbishment of cultural heritage buildings will be covered by this project. According to knowledge gained and plans developed, one of the project activities considers also development of a documentation for energy refurbishment of cultural heritage buildings, one for each of participating cities. The overall objective is development of construction documentation for energy refurbishment of two cultural heritage buildings nominated for this project by introducing energy efficiency measures to reduce energy consumption in these facilities in order to increase protection and preservation of cultural heritage on cross-border area. Also important objective of the project is the exchange of knowledge and experience in the preparation and implementation of energy efficiency in buildings of cultural heritage. Koprivnica and Heviz recognize the importance of investment in energy refurbishment of cultural heritage buildings and with this project will contribute to solving the problem of energy efficiency in Croatia and Hungary. Each heritage building is unique and therefore it needs customized energy solutions. Improving energy efficiency standards in cultural heritage buildings can be particularly complex because many of the solutions that apply to modern buildings cannot be applied to heritage buildings. Main activiteis in project are development of construction documentation for energy refurbishment of cultural heritage buildings, as well as development of cross-border strategy for energy refurbishment of cultural heritage buildings. In both countries partners will do the research and analysis of implemented refurbishment of culutral heritage buildings in cross-border region and research and analysis of relevant refurbishment methods of cultural heritage buildings. Each partner will prepare an action plan for energy refurbishment of cultural heritage buldings and all will be integrated in a common cross-border strategy for energy refurbishemnt of cultural heritage buildings.The project will contribute to respect horizontal principle of equal opportunities and non-discrimination. Refurb Culture project has a direct impact on the environment since it is encourages energy efficient refurbishment of cultural heritage buildings. Also, it aims at further development and popularization of energy efficients that will lead towards lower CO2 emissions and help sustain clean environment. Parallel with that, the project has a positive impact on community where it serves as an positive impacts and motivational tool for better energy efficiency and lower economic costs.

Achievements (EN):

The Project is focused on the elaboration of documentation for energy efficient refurbishment in cultural heritage buildings in the cross-border region; in particular for the Museum building in Koprivnica on the Croatian side of the border, and Ville Pócze in Hungarian city of Heviz, which will enable the strengthening of the cultural tourist offer. The project also developed a Cross-border strategy for energy efficient refurbishments in cultural heritage buildings and the connecting Action plan.
