Cross-border Marine Biotechnology Laboratory

Objectives: The overall objective of the BLUEBIOLAB project is the creation of a cross-border laboratory of scientific excellence in the area of marine biotechnology that boosts the capacity to develop excellence in R & I, strengthens and internationalises the R & D & I capacities of the territory, optimises the use of research infrastructures and contributes to achieving the expected results in the RIS3, RIS3T and the blue growth strategy. In particular, the preferred research lines that will be addressed in the project are fully integrated into the RIS3 and RSI3T strategies, and are: — Aquaculture and biotechnology — Development of new bioactive compounds and biomaterials of marine origin; — Use of atomic technologies for the understanding of marine biodiversity. This action will contribute to the improvement of the scientific excellence of the area of cross-border cooperation in the lines of research related to marine biotechnology, which have been identified in the previous paragraph, and which have proven to be internationally competitive. In order to achieve this overall objective, it is necessary to achieve certain intermediate objectives, such as: — Support the consolidation of biotechnology — essential enabling technology — as a fundamental tool for the study and valorisation of marine biological resources, and the sustainable exploitation of marine biological resources, areas in which the Euroregion has already reached a critical mass of researchers, and has the potential to be competitive internationally. — Pool existing infrastructures, integrated in the Transboundary Laboratory of Marine Biotechnology, in line with the common strategic objectives of the regions (RIS3 Galicia, RIS3 Norte and RIS3T). — Develop actions to support talent and promote the mobility of researchers, considering the programming of training actions. — Create networks of knowledge and joint work, with actors of the scientific system linked to marine biotechnology on both sides of the border, in order to increase critical mass and scientific excellence. — Promote the internationalisation and integration of scientific infrastructures linked to marine biotechnology in international R&D&I networks through the Transboundary Marine Biotechnology Laboratory, to achieve the consideration of excellent research centers and international reference. Therefore, it can be concluded that BLUEBIOLAB aims to establish the resources and mechanisms to strengthen, stimulate and project internationally strategic research lines for the territory and for the marine productive sector, promoting innovative capacity and territorial competitiveness through a KET in which the Euroregion has already demonstrated its ability to be competitive internationally. Activities: 1 Creation of the Transboundary Marine Biotechnology Laboratory. 2 Incorporation of talent and training. 3 Implementation of joint research projects. 4 Internationalisation of research. 5 Management and Coordination. 6 Communication. Results: The BLUEBIOLAB project will focus on achieving the following results: — Promotion and consolidation of scientific cooperation in the field of marine biotechnology in the Euroregion, optimising the use of scientific facilities related to marine biotechnology. — Cross-border recruitment and training of new researchers and promotion of their mobility between research centres in the Euroregion. — Promotion of collaborative scientific research projects between agents of the Euroregion in the field of marine biotechnology that address challenges of traditional economic sectors in the territory and the environment. — Strengthening the degree of internationalisation of research in the field of marine biotechnology, through the establishment of collaboration agreements with foreign centres that can contribute their experience in the management of an infrastructure of the characteristics of the Transboundary Laboratory and adherence to relevant international networks. According to the investment priority, the expected output indicator is established by the number of academic papers published by actors in science and technology systems. The scientific production of the project is guaranteed as part of the activities to promote collaborative projects and internationalisation actions, in the part that involves the generation of communications to be presented at international congresses. In addition, the scientific excellence of the partners, together with the leading character of the Research Groups linked to the project, which have reference researchers who have raised funds in individual calls through the various lines of the ERC or state bodies endorse the capacity of the partners to generate academic publications, in the form of scientific articles, books, essays, monographs, theses/thesis, papers, or any research report.

Objetivos: El objetivo general del proyecto BLUEBIOLAB es la creación de un laboratorio transfronterizo de excelencia científica en el área de biotecnología marina que impulse la capacidad para desarrollar excelencia en materia de I+i, refuerce e internacionalice las capacidades de I+D+i del territorio, optimice el uso de infraestructuras de investigación y contribuya a alcanzar los resultados esperados en las RIS3, RIS3T y en la estrategia de crecimiento azul. En particular, las líneas de investigación preferentes que se abordarán en el proyecto, están plenamente integradas en las estrategias RIS3 y RSI3T, y son: - Acuicultura y biotecnología - Desarrollo de nuevos compuestos bioactivos y biomateriales de origen marino; - Utilización de tecnologías ómicas para la comprensión de la biodiversidad marina. Esta actuación contribuirá a la mejora de la excelencia científica del espacio de cooperación transfronterizo en las líneas de investigación relacionadas con la biotecnología marina, que se han identificado en el párrafo anterior, y que han demostrado ser competitivas a nivel internacional. Para la consecución de este objetivo global se hace necesaria la consecución de algunos objetivos intermedios, tales que: - Apoyar la consolidación de la biotecnología –tecnología facilitadora esencial-, como herramienta fundamental para el estudio y valorización de los recursos biológicos marinos, y la explotación sostenible de los recursos biológicos marinos, áreas en las que la Eurorregión ya ha alcanzado una masa crítica de investigadores, y dispone de potencial para ser competitiva internacionalmente. - Poner en común las infraestructuras existentes, integradas en el Laboratorio Transfronterizo de Biotecnología Marina, en línea con los objetivos estratégicos comunes de las regiones (RIS3 Galicia, RIS3 Norte y RIS3T). - Desarrollar actuaciones de apoyo al talento y fomento de la movilidad de investigadores, contemplándose la programación de actuaciones formativas. - Crear redes de conocimiento y de trabajo conjunto, con actores del sistema científico vinculado a la biotecnología marina de ambos lados de la frontera, con el objeto de incrementar la masa crítica y la excelencia científica. - Fomentar la internacionalización y la integración de las infraestructuras científicas vinculadas con la biotecnología marina en redes internacionales de I+D+I a través del Laboratorio Transfronterizo de Biotecnología Marina, para alcanzar la consideración de centros de investigación excelentes y referencia internacional. Por tanto, se puede concluir que BLUEBIOLAB tiene por objetivo establecer los recursos y mecanismos para afianzar, estimular y proyectar internacionalmente líneas de investigación estratégicas para el territorio y para el sector productivo marino, impulsando la capacidad innovadora y la competitividad territorial a través de una TFE en la que la Eurorregión ya ha demostrado su capacidad para ser competitiva internacionalmente. Actividades: 1 Creación del Laboratorio Transfronterizo de Biotecnología Marina. 2 Incorporación de talento y formación. 3 Realización de proyectos de investigación conjuntos. 4 Internacionalización de la investigación. 5 Gestión y Coordinación. 6 Comunicación. Resultados: El proyecto BLUEBIOLAB se focalizará en la consecución de los siguientes resultados: - Fomento y consolidación de la cooperación científica en materia de biotecnología marina en la Eurorregión, optimizando el uso de las instalaciones científicas relacionadas con la biotecnología marina. - Captación y formación transfronteriza de nuevos investigadores y fomento de su movilidad entre los centros de investigación de la Eurorregión. - Promoción de proyectos de investigación científicos de carácter colaborativo entre agentes de la Eurorregión en el ámbito de la biotecnología marina que abordan desafíos de sectores económicos tradicionales en el territorio y ambientales. - Fortalecimiento del grado de internacionalización de la investigación en materia de biotecnología marina, mediante el establecimiento de acuerdos de colaboración con centros extranjeros que puedan aportar su experiencia en la gestión de una infraestructura de las características del Laboratorio Transfronterizo y adhesión a redes internacionales relevantes. Según la prioridad de inversión, el indicador de resultado previsto se establece mediante el número de documentos académicos publicados por actores de los sistemas de ciencia y tecnología. La producción científica del proyecto está garantizada como parte de las actividades de promoción de proyectos de carácter colaborativo y de las acciones de internacionalización, en la parte que conlleva la generación de comunicaciones para ser presentadas en congresos internacionales. Además, la excelencia científica de los socios, junto con el carácter líder de los Grupos de Investigación vinculados al proyecto, que cuentan con investigadores de referencia que han captado fondos en convocatorias individuales a través de las diversas líneas del ERC u organismos estatales avalan, la capacidad de los socios para generar publicaciones académicas, en forma de artículos científicos, libros, ensayos, monografías, tesis/tesinas, ponencias, o cualquier informe de investigación.
