Description (EN):

The project concerns the improvement and enhancement of the attractiveness of areas of natural and cultural interest through the protection and promotion of important "water elements" on the E4 path in Crete and Cyprus. E4 has special environmental, cultural, and historical value for the two islands. It runs through areas and monuments of special natural beauty which are part of European and international protection networks such as Natura 2000 and the UNESCO Geoparks network to which the Sitia (Crete) & Troodos (Cyprus) Geoparks belong. Recognition of them, as a comparative advantage, provides unique development opportunities and possibilities for sustainable development of local communities and their promotion into geotourism destinations of excellence. The project highlights the value & special features of geological & cultural heritage, contributes to the protection and preservation of the natural & cultural environment and raises awareness of citizens about climate change & sustainability. It is a tool of an integrated social and economic sustainable local development. As part of the joint effort to meet the development objectives, the partners designed and submitted this proposal, which aims to exchange best practices, adopt common approaches, implement joint actions and produce common innovative products and services with common main objectives: a) improving the attractiveness and increasing the number of visitors to the intervention areas that are disadvantaged in terms of economic development and are more prone to climate change, b) their utilization and promotion as cultural and geological tourist destinations all year round, thus extending the tourist season. The increase of traffic will be achieved through the upgrade of the tourist product with the introduction of the water element as an important factor shaping both the natural landscape and the culture in these areas. Specifically, the project includes: a) actions to increase the possibilities of existing infrastructure (places to visit & interactive models), b) enrichment & development of activities, information & education of residents, tourists, students & entrepreneurs using new ICT technologies specific for tourism / entertainment / visits, c) Recording & documentation of monuments & areas of natural interest of water elements, d) portable museum equipment, e) communication material, documentaries / small commercials, f) pilot actions for protection, conservation & restoration of disturbed habitats. The operation will have multiple & significant benefits a) for the intervention areas through the increase of recognition, attractiveness & traffic, as well as the extension of the tourist season, b) for the residents through the strengthening of entrepreneurship, employment & the diversification of the local economy, c) for visitors through the offer of quality products and services.

Το έργο αφορά την βελτίωση και ενίσχυση της ελκυστικότητας περιοχών φυσικού και πολιτιστικού ενδιαφέροντος μέσω της προστασίας και ανάδειξης σημαντικών «στοιχείων νερού» στο μονοπάτι Ε4 στην Κρήτη και στην Κύπρο. Το Ε4 έχει ιδιαίτερη περιβαλλοντική, πολιτιστική, και ιστορική αξία για τα δύο νησιά. Διατρέχει περιοχές και μνημεία ιδιαίτερου φυσικού κάλλους οι οποίες εντάσσονται σε ευρωπαϊκά και διεθνή δίκτυα προστασίας όπως το Natura 2000 και το δίκτυο Γεωπάρκων UNESCO στο οποίο ανήκουν τα Γεωπάρκα Σητείας(Κρήτη) & Τροόδους(Κύπρος). Η αναγνώριση τους, ως συγκριτικό πλεονέκτημα, παρέχει μοναδικές αναπτυξιακές ευκαιρίες και δυνατότητες βιώσιμης ανάπτυξης των τοπικών κοινοτήτων και ανάδειξης τους σε γεωτουριστικούς προορισμούς αριστείας. Το έργο προβάλλει την αξία & τα ιδιαίτερα χαρακτηριστικά γεωλογικής & πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς, συντελεί στην προστασία και διατήρηση του φυσικού & πολιτιστικού περιβάλλοντος και ευαισθητοποιεί τους πολίτες σχετικά με την κλιματική αλλαγή & την αειφορία. Αποτελεί εργαλείο μιας ολοκληρωμένης κοινωνικής και οικονομικής βιώσιμης τοπικής ανάπτυξης. Στο πλαίσιο της κοινής προσπάθειας ικανοποίησης των αναπτυξιακών στόχων, οι εταίροι σχεδίασαν και υπέβαλαν την παρούσα πρόταση που αποσκοπεί στην ανταλλαγή βέλτιστων πρακτικών, στην υιοθέτηση κοινών προσεγγίσεων, στην υλοποίηση κοινών δράσεων και στην παραγωγή κοινών καινοτόμων προϊόντων και υπηρεσιών με κοινούς κύριους στόχους: α) την βελτίωση της ελκυστικότητας και την αύξηση της επισκεψιμότητας των περιοχών παρέμβασης που μειονεκτούν ως προς την οικονομική ανάπτυξη και είναι πιο επιρρεπείς στην κλιματική αλλαγή, β) την αξιοποίηση και ανάδειξή τους ως πολιτιστικούς και γεωλογικούς τουριστικούς προορισμούς όλο τον χρόνο επιμηκύνοντας έτσι την τουριστική περίοδο. Η αύξηση της επισκεψιμότητας θα επιτευχθεί μέσω της αναβάθμισης του τουριστικού προϊόντος με την εισαγωγή του υδάτινου στοιχείου ως σημαντικού παράγοντα διαμόρφωσης τόσο του φυσικού τοπίου όσο και του πολιτισμού στις περιοχές αυτές. Συγκεκριμένα το έργο περιλαμβάνει: α) δράσεις επαυξήσεις δυνατοτήτων υφιστάμενων υποδομών (επισκέψιμοι χώροι & διαδραστικές μακέτες), β) εμπλουτισμό & ανάπτυξη δραστηριοτήτων, ενημέρωση & εκπαίδευση των κατοίκων, τουριστών, μαθητών & επιχειρηματιών με χρήση νέων τεχνολογιών ΤΠΕ ειδικές για τουριστικές/ψυχαγωγικές/εκπαιδευτικές επισκέψεις, γ) Καταγραφή & τεκμηρίωση μνημείων & περιοχών φυσικού ενδιαφέροντος στοιχείων νερού, δ) φορητές μουσειοσκευές, ε) επικοινωνιακό υλικό, ντοκιμαντέρ/μικρά διαφημιστικά σποτ, στ) πιλοτικές δράσεις προστασίας, διατήρησης & αποκατάστασης διαταραγμένων οικοτόπων. Η πράξη θα έχει πολλαπλά & σημαντικά οφέλη α) για τις περιοχές παρέμβασης μέσω της αύξησης αναγνωρισιμότητας, ελκυστικότητας & επισκεψιμότητας, καθώς και της επιμήκυνσης της τουριστικής περιόδου, β) για τους κατοίκους μέσω της ενίσχυσης της επιχειρηματικότητας, της απασχόλησης & της διαφοροποίησης της τοπικής οικονομίας, γ) για τους επισκέπτες μέσω της προσφοράς ποιοτικών προϊόντων και υπηρεσιών.

Expected Results (EN):

The main result of the project will be the strengthening of the mountainous and disadvantaged areas and settlements that run through the E4 through the improvement of their visibility and the increase of the traffic (index R0308 Change in the annual overnight stays in tourist accommodation). Particular emphasis will be placed on those areas that, due to their geographical location, receive the least rainfall and are expected to be most affected by climate change. In addition to increasing traffic, the development of educational materials will raise awareness among both visitors and students on issues of protection, monitoring and management of water resources. Through scientific and educational tools, interactive models of waterways and museum equipment, it is expected to increase public awareness on issues of acquaintance, familiarization and protection of water resources and to highlight the cultural heritage in the intervention areas. The expected result of the project is the protection and promotion of monuments and natural environment in the intervention areas through the pilot management and restoration of disturbed ecosystems within the Geoparks of the consortium and on E4. The pilot restoration will be a direct result and an example that will lay the foundations for future restoration of disturbed sites related to the water element. A direct result is also the mapping, recording, highlighting, and development of points of interest of areas of natural and cultural interest and water monuments through the appropriate actions of deliverable 3.2 that will be implemented by the partners in the framework of work packages 3 and 4. Finally, the dissemination of the results will be sought in bodies related to E4 and based in other European countries with the ultimate goal of future cooperation in respective programs-projects.

Expected Results (EL):

Ως κύριο αποτέλεσμα του έργου θα είναι η ενίσχυση των ορεινών και μειονεκτικών περιοχών και οικισμών που διατρέχονται από το Ε4 μέσω της βελτίωσης της προβολής τους και της αύξησης της επισκεψιμότητας (δείκτης R0308 Μεταβολή στις ετήσιες διανυκτερεύσεις σε τουριστικά καταλύματα). Ιδιαίτερη έμφαση θα δοθεί σε εκείνες τις περιοχές που λόγω της γεωγραφικής τους θέσης δέχονται τις λιγότερες βροχοπτώσεις και αναμένεται να επηρεαστούν περισσότερο από την κλιματική αλλαγή. Εκτός από την αύξηση επισκεψιμότητας, η ανάπτυξη εκπαιδευτικού υλικού θα ευαισθητοποιήσει τόσο τους επισκέπτες όσο και μαθητές-σπουδαστές σε θέματα προστασίας, παρακολούθησης και διαχείρισης υδατικών πόρων. Μέσω των επιστημονικών & εκπαιδευτικών εργαλείων, των διαδραστικών μακέτων ανάδειξης υδάτινων δρόμων και των μουσειοσκευών, αναμένεται να αυξηθεί η ευαισθητοποίηση των πολιτών σε θέματα γνωριμίας, εξοικείωσης και προστασίας των υδατικών πόρων αλλά και να αναδειχθεί η πολιτιστική κληρονομιά στις περιοχές παρέμβασης. Ως αναμενόμενο αποτέλεσμα του έργου είναι η προστασία και η ανάδειξη μνημείων και φυσικού περιβάλλοντος στις περιοχές παρέμβασης μέσω της πιλοτικής διαχείρισης και αποκατάστασης διαταραγμένων οικοσυστημάτων εντός των Γεωπάρκων της κοινοπραξίας και επί του Ε4. Η πιλοτική αποκατάσταση θα αποτελέσει άμεσο αποτέλεσμα και παράδειγμα που θα θέσει τις βάσεις για μελλοντική αποκατάσταση διαταραγμένων θέσεων που σχετίζονται με το υδάτινο στοιχείο. Άμεσο αποτέλεσμα επίσης είναι η χαρτογράφηση, η καταγραφή, η ανάδειξη, και η ανάπτυξη σημείων ενδιαφέροντος περιοχών φυσικού και πολιτιστικού ενδιαφέροντος και μνημείων νερού μέσω των κατάλληλων δράσεων του παραδοτέου 3.2 που θα υλοποιηθούν από τους εταίρους στα πλαίσια των πακέτων εργασίας 3 και 4. Τέλος θα επιδιωχθεί η διάχυση των αποτελεσμάτων σε φορείς που σχετίζονται με το Ε4 και εδράζουν σε άλλες ευρωπαϊκές χώρες με απώτερο στόχο την μελλοντική συνεργασία σε αντίστοιχα προγράμματα-έργα.

Expected Outputs (EN):

The expected outputs of the project are:  Preparation of reporting reports and monitoring of the project. . Organization of workshops, two on each island and one at national or international level for the publication of the program. . Creation of a website with material and deliverables of the project as an Integrated Internet Presentation System of the digital material that the project will produce.  Creation of augmented with metadata, digital and printed maps with the imprinting of important "water elements" on E.4.  Production of multimedia material in the form of films and spots: o Production of a documentary film by Marathas of the Troodos Geopark (12-15 min). o An informative - educational and promotional film (15-20 min). o Two TV commercials (max 20sec.) o Two commercials for multimedia use (max 50sec.) . Development of an interactive model depicting the natural environment with the achievements of human engineering for the use of water, and the natural environment.  Production of a serious educational digital game based on AR (augmented reality) and / or VR (virtual reality) technologies. o Lost treasure hunt. o Knowledge game. o STEM experiment game but also educational robotics. . Portable educational material in the form of museum equipment for field training.  Pilot management and restoration of disturbed ecosystem within the Geopark or on the E4 path. . Placement of information signs near water management monuments (eg technical irrigation works, fountains, tanks) under the responsibility of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Lassithi. . Drawings, photogrammetric capture of faces, digital photographs, drone photographs of selected monuments and areas of responsibility of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Lassithi.  Creation of museum equipment, which will present the timeless use of water through selected monuments under the responsibility of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Lassithi by age group of school group.

Οι αναμενόμενες εκροές του έργου είναι:  Εκπόνηση εκθέσεων αναφοράς και παρακολούθησης του έργου.  Διοργάνωση ημερίδων, δύο σε κάθε νησί και μία σε εθνικό ή διεθνές επίπεδο για την δημοσιοποίηση του προγράμματος.  Δημιουργία ιστοσελίδας με υλικό και παραδοτέα του έργου ως Ολοκληρωμένο Διαδικτυακό Σύστημα Παρουσίασης του ψηφιακού υλικού που θα παράξει το έργο.  Δημιουργία, επαυξημένων με μετα-δεδομένα, ψηφιακών και έντυπων χαρτών με την αποτύπωση σημαντικών «στοιχείων νερού» επί του Ε.4.  Παραγωγή πολυμεσικού υλικού με την μορφή ταινίων και σποτ: o Παραγωγή ταινίας ντοκιμαντέρ της Μαραθάσας του Γεωπάρκου Τροόδους(12-15 min). o Μια ταινία ενημερωτικού – εκπαιδευτικού και προωθητικού χαρακτήρα(15-20 min). o Δύο Τηλεοπτικά Διαφημιστικά σποτ (max 20sec.) o Δύο Διαφημιστικά σποτ για χρήση multimedia (max 50sec.)  Ανάπτυξη διαδραστικής μακέτας απεικόνισης του φυσικού περιβάλλοντος με τα επιτεύγματα της ανθρώπινης μηχανικής για την χρήση του νερού, και του φυσικού περιβάλλοντος.  Παραγωγή ψηφιακού εκπαιδευτικού παιγνίου σοβαρού σκοπού βασισμένο σε τεχνολογίες AR (augmented reality) ή / και VR (virtual reality) o Κυνήγι χαμένου θησαυρού. o Παιχνίδι γνώσεων. o Παιχνίδι πειραμάτων STEM αλλά και εκπαιδευτικής ρομποτικής.  Φορητό εκπαιδευτικό υλικό υπό μορφή μουσειοσκεύης για εκπαίδευση στο πεδίο.  Πιλοτική διαχείριση και αποκατάσταση διαταραγμένου οικοσυστήματος εντός Γεωπάρκου ή και επί του μονοπατιού Ε4.  Τοποθέτηση ενημερωτικών πινακίδων πλησίον μνημείων διαχείρισης του νερού (π.χ. τεχνικά αρδευτικά έργα, κρήνες, δεξαμενές) αρμοδιότητας της Εφορείας Αρχαιοτήτων Λασιθίου.  Σχέδια, φωτογραμμετρική αποτύπωση όψεων, ψηφιακές φωτογραφίες, φωτογραφίες με drone επιλεγμένων μνημείων και χώρων αρμοδιότητας της Εφορείας Αρχαιοτήτων Λασιθίου.  Δημιουργία μουσειοσκευών, οι οποίες θα παρουσιάζουν την διαχρονική χρήση του νερού μέσα από επιλεγμένα μνημεία αρμοδιότητας της Εφορείας Αρχαιοτήτων Λασιθίου ανά ηλικιακή κατηγορία σχολικής ομάδας.
