Description (EN):

Limited accessibility of oral health services, lack of health promotion and effective preventive programmes are associated with poor oral health across borders. Dental caries is easily preventable but remains one of the major cross-border oral health problems. Project implementation will mitigate the negative effects of lack of systematic preventive programs and insufficient utilization of professionals, which resulted in poor epidemiological situation. The established collaboration will increase knowledge and skills of dental professionals, upgrade the involved project stockholders’ knowledge, raise public awareness, and make dental health care services more accessible. The joint dental medicine training programme will enable professionals’ adaptation to increased needs and requirements for the project area’s oral care and the expansion of existing dental medicine professions’ role. Oral Health Data Tool that will enable a comparative analysis of indicators of oral health status of the population 10.000 patients will be informed and educated about the proper measures to prevent dental diseases while recording their dental status and oral health behavioral. These target groups are identified: regional public authority, interest groups including NGOs, general public and public health institutions. All target groups at cross border inland and islands is in need of mobile dentistry due to the financial frameworks of 3 countries health systems who do not follow the preventive requirements although actively promoting preventive oral health care services results in long-term savings of oral health care by avoiding more costly dental procedures. Joint Knowledge Centre for Oral Health will be established to improve the quality of the services in the public oral health care sectors across the borders as well as effectiveness, availability and accessibility of the services, among others, provided by Demo Mobile Access Dental Clinic.

Expected Results (EN): The level of accessibility and availability of the services within public health care sector

Expected Outputs (EN):

Establishing cross-border cooperation will assure that 1 Joint Knowledge Centre for Oral Health will operate according to the European standards, based on the latest EU Manual of Dental Practice. Dental professionals will have access to 1 Oral Health Data Tool with epidemiological data from at least 10.000 patients in Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro. Analysis of data by university clinical staff will give dental professionals the data for research, transferring knowledge for education purposes, as long as patient confidentiality is secured, and furthermore to determine and suggest the required oral health preventive measures within the Action plan. Increased awareness among 75 dental professionals from public medical schools and oral health care sector at a regional and local level and their role in oral disease prevention will be achieved within Joint dental medicine training programme to be held in each partner country. The immediate effects of the project will be observed at various levels. 10.000 patients will be informed and educated about the proper measures to prevent dental diseases while implementing the preventive programs developed by the Joint Knowledge centre. The following target groups are identified: pre-school children, primary school children, high school children, university students, island and rural inhabitants, elderly, pregnant women, disabled, war veterans, oncology patients and general population, to be verified by assessment form delivered. The large pool of dental-related data that will be readily available to dental professionals and researchers at the Joint Knowledge centre, would constitute valuable input for decision making, while ensuring that personal health data is used in a scientifically sound and ethically acceptable manner. All these main results will contribute to raising public awareness, availability and accessibility of oral health care in the area of the southern Croatia, western Herzegovina, and Montenegro.
