Description (EN):

The project supports the research on health status of cultured fish and fish farming capacity in order to ensure a more efficient production in aquaculture systems of the shared Prut river basin. The research will offer the possibility of knowledge transfer trainings for researchers, fish farmers, local public authorities and educational institutions. One guide and patent application will also be developed as a result of the subsequent research.

Expected Results (EN):

1. A participatory baseline assessment performed on economic losses of fish production due to diseases and fish health status based on farmers knowledge and scientific research investigations (1). 2. Innovations developed in the field of fish disease and parasitological control, as well as of sustainable management of aquaculture systems are used by at least 2 fish farms and 2 research or education institutions in the project area (4). 3. Capacity transferred to 40 researchers, 10 veterinarians and fish farmers, 10 decision makers and 60 students on increase of fish farm productivity in the hydrographic basin of the Prut river via fish disease control, sustainable fish farming methods and sustainable management of water quality (120).

Expected Outputs (EN):

A study on the baseline situation (1) - based upon information from literature review, focus group discussion and field data on the most prevalent fish diseases and parazitoses, the status of water quality, availability of live fish food, use of mixed feed. Guide (1) - The guide (in Romanian language) will describe the innovations in fish disease prevention and treatment, water quality management and sustainable fish farming practices. Patent application (1) - The draft patent application will be based on most promising results regarding the main research directions foreseen on application of lactic acid bacteria on the improvement of water quality; the use of the mix of inorganic forms of trace elements for improving the fish resistance to disease; nano-conjugated method with B-cyclodextrine as carrier, for better treatment or prevention of the main protozoozes in fish. Knowledge transfer trainings (1) - organized with the purpose to transfer the knowledge generated during the project for researchers and fish farmers, local public authorities, the educational institutions from Iasi county and Moldova that received guide or were informed about research inovations.
