Om de Europese energie- en klimaatdoelstellingen te halen, met als ultiem doel een energie- en klimaat neutrale gebouwde omgeving in 2050, is het noodzakelijk om het energieverbruik in gebouwen zoveel mogelijk terug te dringen. Het effectieve gebruik van zonlicht en zonnewarmte kan een grote impact hebben op de energie-efficiëntie van gebouwen. Het Interreg-project Sunovate richt zich op slim warmtebeheer in ramen en zonnepanelen. Binnen dit project worden nieuwe materialen ontwikkeld die actief zonnewarmte reguleren in slimme energiezuinige ramen en warmtewerende zonnepanelen. Hierbij wordt ingezet op de unieke ontwikkeling en integratie van infrarood-lichtregulerende, gepigmenteerde polymeerfolies. In het eerste jaar van het SUNOVATE project zijn infrarood licht regulerende pigmenten geselecteerd en geoptimaliseerd. De verwerking van de pigmenten in polymere folies is geoptimaliseerd op labschaal. De pigmenten zijn op pilot schaal geproduceerd voor de integratie in architectuur beglazing en BIPV panelen. Daarnaast zijn er in het eerste jaar sensoren voor het monitoren van mechanische belastbaarheid en temperatuur ontwikkeld en gevalideerd via integratie in folies op labschaal. De ontwikkelde sensoren zijn geïntegreerd en worden getest in de demo's. In de afgelopen periode zijn pilotschaal demonstratoren bestaande uit functionele films voor warmtebeheer geïntegreerd in gelaagd veiligheidsglas voor ramen en in gebouw geïntegreerde fotovoltaïsche systemen (BIPV) geproduceerd. De ontwikkelde demonstratoren zullen in de komende maanden tot aan het eind van het project worden getest in de faciliteiten van SolarBEAT (NL) en EnergyVille (VL). De resultaten van het project Sunovate zullen na het project op verschillende manieren worden gebruikt. Ontwikkelde materialen en technologieën zullen worden geïmplementeerd in slimme ramen om het energieverbruik in gebouwen voor verwarming en koeling zoveel mogelijk te verminderen en tevens in (BI)PV-panelen om de resterende energiebehoeften te dekken met verhoogde opbrengst aan lokaal opgewekte hernieuwbare elektriciteit.

The focus at SUNOVATE is on the development and integration of infrared light-regulating, pigmented polymer films in solar panels and windows. To achieve the European energy and climate targets, with the ultimate goal of an energy and climate neutral built environment by 2050, it is necessary to reduce energy consumption in buildings as much as possible. The effective use of sunlight and solar heat can have a major impact on the energy efficiency of buildings. The Interreg project Sunovate focuses on smart heat management in windows and solar panels. Within this project, new materials are being developed that actively regulate solar heat in smart energy-efficient windows and heat-reflecting solar panels. The focus is on the unique development and integration of infrared light-regulating, pigmented polymer films.

This will focus on the unique development and integration of infrared light-regulating, pigmented polymer films. In the first period of the project, infrared light-regulating pigments were selected and optimised. The processing of the pigments in polymeric films has been optimised on a lab scale. The pigments were produced on a pilot scale for integration into architecture glazing and BIPV panels. In addition, sensors for monitoring mechanical load capacity and temperature have been developed and validated in the first year through integration into lab-scale films. The developed sensors are integrated and tested in the demos. In the past period, pilot scale demonstrators consisting of functional heat management films have been integrated into laminated safety glass for windows and building-integrated photovoltaic systems (BIPV). The developed demonstrators will be tested in the facilities of SolarBEAT (NL) and EnergyVille (VL) in the coming months until the end of the project. The results of the Sunovate project will be used in different ways after the project. Developed materials and technologies will be implemented in smart windows to minimise energy consumption in buildings for heating and cooling and also in (BI)PV panels to cover the remaining energy needs with increased yields of locally generated renewable electricity.
