RATIONALE, RELEVANCE AND JUSTIFICATION: On the project area, the possibilities provided by heritage have not been used in their full capacity. The tourism offer is characterised by static and insufficient usage of IT and the no individualised approach to visitors. There is a need for development of a tourism attraction that is based on active tourism, IT and gamification. Combining these tools will result in attraction that visitors can easily adjust to their interests. Through the establishment of visitor centres equipped with advanced technologies, spatial and temporal obstacles will be removed and direct communication and interaction of visitors will be enabled. The project incorporates activities directed towards increasing of the knowledge of stakeholders and the creation of recognisable brand. These activities will directly provide tools for redirecting visitors from the most visited and recognisable attractions towards rural areas. OVERALL AND SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES; The project is directed towards achieving following specific objectives: - To integrate heritage of the cross-border area through the development of joint cross-border tourism attraction, - To develop new tourism concepts with a high share of the ICT, based on heritage of the cross-border area, - To increase the awareness of target groups in the cross-border area on economic, social and tourism value of heritage. These specific objectives will contribute to the overall objective: To stimulate active protection of heritage through the development of tourism attraction that is based on traditional values of the project area and the introduction of advanced technologies, active tourism principles and the state-of-the are trends in the area of visitor management. DURATION: It is planned that total project duration will be 24 months, starting from the 1st of March 2020. TARGET GROUPS: Main target groups included in project activities are: - Owners/managers of heritage, - Tourism service providers. - Visitors. PARTNER ROLES: Each project partner is responsible for one part of the project, in accordance with their expertise. Varazdin County and the Municipality of Csurgó are responsible for planning, directing and supporting tourism development in their area. University of Pannonia has sufficient expertise related with the integration of IT and tourism sector. The Varazdin County Tourism Board has extensive expertise related to education and visitor management. OUTPUTS AND RESULTS: Implementation of planed activities, will produce following outputs/results: - 1 database of owners/managers of heritage, - 1 analysis of exiting heritage and its valorisation potential, - 1 innovative tourism attraction, - 2 visitor centres, - 1 digital archive of heritage , -1 marketing strategy , - Promotion materials , -1 training cycle in Croatia and Hungary for the owners/managers of heritage , -1 training cycle in Croatia and Hungary for tourism sector providers, -1 international conference on smart technologies in tourism. CROSS-BORDER CHARACTER AND BENEFIT: Through the development of a tourism attraction – application based on augmented reality and gamification and the establishment of interconnected visitor centres, partners will create the baseline for valorisation and modernisation of tourism offer of the cross-border area, as well as the development of future projects. Visitors in the cross-border area will have tourism attraction at their disposal, which can be adjusted to individual interests. Visitor centres will provide additional possibility for exploring heritage and at the same time removing temporal and special obstacles among visitors of these centres. Tourism service providers and managers/owners of heritage will gain knowledge linked with the valorisation based on advanced technologies. Additionally, project area will be integrated into one recognisable brand that will connect heritage with market, which will, at the end, result in better social and economic development.
