The product to be developed by the project is a completely developed, marketable, plug and play machine for processing of acacia poles needed for playgrounds and various other wooden constructions. Idea of developing such a machine is due to quality shortcomings of the hand-processed poles and the market demand to improve productivity and increase capacity. In the past years a hand-made machine was produced at the premises of Europa Uno for own use, but it has not been commercialised, however there would be a clear demand to such technology as it is a very particular instrument which is currently not available on the market. "Acacia is the appropriate wood material for children’s playgrounds, as it is outstandingly durable, flexible, stable under pressure, excellent in ductility. White acacia is the hardest and toughest, it is in many aspects better than oak, therefore it is appropriate for outdoor constructions, carrying big load and stand weather conditions, even without chemical conservation and impregnation. Without such a machinery, taking into consideration the high quality demand typical for children’s playgrounds, one person in 10 working hours may produce 5 pieces of acacia poles per day – 16 cm diameter, 4 m long. Processing includes removal of sapwood (the outer, lighter coloured younger and softer portion of wood that lies between the cambium and the heartwood, which is permeable and less durable, therefore it can’t be applied for the poles) and grinding of the pole. " "The machine to be developed would increase the productivity, as daily 30-40 pieces of poles could be produced, with assistance of two technicians. The development of the new machine would include the following features: - Increase the cut depth; - Improvement of grinding quality; - Increase of processing speed; - Developing a software to set the sapwood depth and grinding. Hardware development would be carried out by the Hungarian partner, while automatisation software solution would be developed by Eko B&S in Croatia. Important to point out that such machine for white acacia processing is currently not available on the market. The newly developed tool would be perfectly applicable both in Hungary and Croatia, as white acacia woodstock is very similar in the two countries. The machine would be marketable in Central Europe in general, where acacia tree is available and used for various purposes. Another added value of the new machine is the significantly higher quality of the end product. Etching and grinding done by machine is better in quality, does not cause stretches on the wood which is inevitable in case of handwork or use of flex machine. The new machine will improve work security as well, number of accidents could be decreased, as the machine would be equipped with proper safety features.
