The Szigetköz-Žitný ostrov region is bound for an intense nature conservation cooperation and for coordinated preservation efforts across the border, as it is the largest inland delta in Europe, which can be considered as a coherent landscape of similar geographic origin formed by strong river activity of the Danube, consisting of complex branch systems and protected areas on both sides of the border, facing similar risks and problems. Recognising that without proper environmental education and awareness raising activities nature conservation efforts cannot be efficient on the long term, and utilising the momentum originated from the initiation of the Szigetköz Nature Park in 2018 the cooperating partners have decided to put the emphasis on education for sustainable development, identifying it as a precondition for successful nature conservation efforts. Consequently the aim of the project is to broaden the cross border education programmes for sustainable development both in terms of addressing a wider range of target groups (involving preschool students, teachers, pensioners and people with disabilities) and by the capacity building of cooperating institutions leading to a quantitative increase of participants of environmental education activities and to an improved quality of environmental education services. To contribute to an increased level of cross border cooperation in the region, the Partners are planning to develop 5 cross border products and services (mobile interactive exhibitions and enhanced eco-mobile fleets), organise 212 cross border events actively involving 2 235 people from Hungary and Slovakia. Operational infrastructure is planned to be improved on both sides of the border by creating a new exhibition in Šamorín with the thematic focus “The Danube around Šamorín”, and by the realisation of small scale reconstruction works of the Lipót-Gombócos Nature Centre both locations serving as venues for environmental education activities in the region.

Expected Results (EN):

Within the project it is planned to organise 209 cross-border events actively involving 2 336 people from both sides of the border. Almost all events will be attended jointly by participants from HU and SK as well, or will be organised partly in Szigetköz and partly in Žitný ostrov. Due to the large number of joint events and people involved, and due to the strong cross-border approach of all planned activities, the project’s contribution to an increased level of cross-border co-operation is unambiguous.

Building 4 (workshop in the garden: floor space: 66,00 m2): - reconstructed and replaced reed roof. 5, 3 pcs of two-day outdoor educational sessions for students (no. of participants: total 45 ppl). 2 pcs of one-week summer camps (no. of participants: total 40 ppl). 2 pcs of one-day outdoor educational sessions for teachers in Lipót (no. of participants: total 40 ppl). 6, 20 pcs. of workshops combined with field programmes (no. of participants: total 16 ppl, workshops 18 pcs in SK, 2 pcs in HU). Deliverables per field day: 3 min. film and photos, resulting in a total of 20 films and approximately 100 photos. 2 pcs of five day summer camps (no. of participants: total 60 ppl). 7, 24 pcs of one-day guided tours and field programmes by canoes (24 SK, no. of participants: total 240 ppl). 20 pcs of one-day outdoor educational sessions (20 SK, no. of participants: total 400 ppl). 30 pcs of education sessions for sustainable development for SK preschool students (no. of participants: total 600 ppl). 8, 12 pcs of one-day workshops (6 HU, 6 SK, no. of participants: total 600 ppl). 9, 6 pcs of presentations utilising the mobile interactive exhibition (5 HU and 1 SK environmental education centres, no. of participants: total 2400 ppl). 10 pcs of cross border eco-mobile guided tours (no. of participants: total 170 ppl). 72 pcs of environmental education workshops for the disabled (no. of participants: total 24 ppl).
