Description (EN):

Development of the Arctic zone is leading to increasing demand for up-to-date and sustainable energy supply systems. Modernization of energy-supply grids, local energy generating infrastructure, and expanding the usage of renewable sources of energy, are responding to the modern trends. Wind power plays an important role in the development of energy supply systems in remote territories, and the increasing number of wind power farms will have an increasing impact on the environment. The project objective was to address the above mentioned trends by finding cross-border, common approaches for minimizing wind farms’ negative environmental impact in the future.

Achievements (EN):

A comprehensive literature study was carried out to understand the existing regulations in Norway, Finland and Russia about environmental impact of wind energy project. The focus was on both onshore and offshore wind energy projects. The project activities were initiated as planned and a very good cross boarder collaboration is established between the project partners. The removal of Russian partners from the project in early 2022 affected the final planned activities of the project. The project outcomes are useful for the wind energy industry and policy makers of wind energy project in partner countries. The project reports provide a good overview of existing regulations in each partner country regarding the environmental impact of wind energy projects.
