European regions need a radical transition toward seamless intermodal mobility to motivate people to choose sustainable forms of travelling; moreover, underserved communities in peripheral and rural areas face a diverse range of mobility challenges; limitations in digital connectivity, transport infrastructure and services can in fact have significant social and economic consequences for communities in terms of reducing travel horizons and hindering access to opportunities such as employment, education and social activities. EMBRACER is a region-driven project where seven underserved regions have committed to integrate public transport (PT) with informal modes (cycling, ride-hailing, car/bike/scooter sharing, on-demand transport, autonomous shuttles) to enhance the interconnection with urban areas and achieve seamless intelligent climate-resilient regional and local intermodal mobility. Interregional learning will be achieved through a structured cooperation process that fosters a multi-stakeholder co-creation approach (covering aspects such as planning, policies, digital technology) to the identification of innovative intermodal mobility solutions, which is further enriched by a pilot testing the viability of an autonomous shuttle service to interconnect with PT and enhance travel in remote areas. The shared ambition of EMBRACER regions is to share and co-create replicable seamless intermodal mobility solutions that fill the gap between urban and underserved areas. By taking an holistic approach to seamless mobility, EMBRACER brings together experts from Portugal (University of Aveiro and Coimbra), Italy (TTS Italia and Cagliari), Romania (Bucharest Ilfov Regional Development Agency), Slovenia (Development Agency Sinerjia and Ljutomer), Germany (Aufbauwerk Region Leipzig and City of Leipzig), Lithuania (Municipal Enterprise “Susisiekimo paslaugos'' and City of Vilnius), Finland (Tampere University) and Ireland (Cork Environmental Forum and Cork County Council).
