Contribution to wider strategies and policies:

    • EUStrategyAdriaticIonianRegion The project implements regional and transnational strategies that tackle directly the specific objectives of the EUSAIR 4th pillar: diversification of the tourism offer and the responsible and sustainable tourism management. The partnership and territories of the Adriatic-Ionian Region involved in SMITour (Croatia, Greece, Slovenia) have the capacity to connect the results of the project to those developed in the framework of the EUSAIR, contributing directly to the fulfilment of these objectives.
    • TerritorialAgenda2030 SMITour addresses the need to study the social, economic, technological and environmental impact and potential of industrial tourism, through transnational cooperation and coordination of stakeholders with the aim to accelerate the smart and green transitions of the Mediterranean industrial districts. Through its actions it promotes inclusive and sustainable future and helps the involved areas to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. The project contributes directly to key territorial priorities of the Territorial Agenda 2030: 1) Just Europe - by strengthening innovation capacity, competitiveness of both tourism and traditional industrial sectors of the Mediterranean cooperation area, by encouraging all governance levels to unleash the unique potential of territories through integrated and cooperative approaches; 2) Green Europe - by strengthening innovation capacities and empowering local and regional communities to protect, rehabilitate, utilise and reutilise their (built) environments, landscapes, material and immaterial cultural assets
    • EuropeanGreenDeal
    • European Green Deal provides a strategic framework for the green transformation of the tourism ecosystem. SMITour firstly studies and analyses and then proposes measures and actions that make the tourism sector more sustainable and resilient, by developing alternative tourism offer and by promoting and valorising the sustainable production processes of the industrial productive areas in the Mediterranean. Through its actions the project contributes to the achievement of objectives on ecological footprint reduction and to meeting the aims of the European Green Deal.
    • Other EU strategy for sustainable tourism. The project contributes to the key priority areas of the Strategy: 1) Strengthen: transition to sustainable, responsible and smart tourism - by studying and proposing the solutions for more sustainable forms of tourism, diversifying the offer, boosting new initiatives for cooperation and developing new digital services; by addressing the need to study the resilience of cultural heritage and notes the liaison between sustainable tourism and cultural heritage; by addressing need to protect industrial heritage of regions to enable new economic and professional opportunities; 2) Rethink: planning the future of the tourism industry - by studying the applications new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, robotics and virtual and augmented reality, and their impact on the tourism industry; by addressing the need to facilitate their uptake by accessing the adequate funding for tourism establishments, in particular micro enterprises and SMEs
    • Other The Urban Agenda for the EU is an integrated and coordinated approach to deal with the urban dimension of EU and national policies and legislation. By focusing on several concrete priority themes SMITour contributes to the work done by several EUA partnerships: digital transition, jobs and skills in local economy, culture and cultural heritage and the new thematic partnership on the sustainable tourism . By promoting multi-level governance approaches and bottom-up instances of collaboration among a variety of actors in delivering its action plan it will tackle several themes addressed by the EU Agenda, such as: 1) Redistribution of tourism flows; 2) Collaborative governance of tourism destinations (networking, good practice exchanges and promotion focused on similar attractors and themes, itineraries, common challenges); Innovation in tourism (implementation of new technologies and supporting new entrepreneurship and technological start-ups)
