Contribution to wider strategies and policies:
- The project is in full compliance with the Pillar 2 “Connecting the Region”, Action - Development of air transport, since the project ON CLOUD NINE+ is establishing a dialogue amongst stakeholders on regional flight connections aiming to develop better links within the South Adriatic Region and to optimise year-round regional flights connections with outside destinations. The project aims to develop feasibility studies on new air routes and air transport strategies to overcome the existing cross-border connectivity challenges in the southern Adriatic Sea. By doing so, the project will contribute to improving the transport connectivity of the region, which aligns with the EUSAIR Action Plan's priority area of developing a multi-modal transport system to improve connectivity within the region. Additionally, though the workshops, the project aims to start discussion on improvement of accessibility to poorly connected areas, such as some inland areas and cities. By doing so, the project will help address the connectivity challenges faced by these areas, which is a priority area identified in the EUSAIR Topic 2 - Intermodal connections to the hinterland. Finally, the project will also establish a platform for discussion on development of greener and more sustainable transport strategies to improve the transport infrastructure framework in the region. By doing so, the project will contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality, which aligns with the EUSAIR strategy's objective of promoting environmental sustainability in the region.
- The European Commission adopted a set of proposals to make the EU's climate, energy, transport and taxation policies fit for reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels. The project's focus on promoting sustainable transport solutions aligns with the European Green Deal's objective of achieving climate neutrality by 2050. By promoting greener and more sustainable transport, the project will contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality, which are key objectives of the European Green Deal.
- AAM National Strategic Plan (2021-2030) for the development of Advanced Air Mobility in Italy: The AAM aim to define a National AAM Roadmap aimed at bridging the regulatory, technological and infrastructural gaps identified with respect to the creation of the ecosystem; drafting of this Strategic Plan, as a tool for guiding and implementing public and private initiatives for the creation of the national ecosystem for AAM. Part of project’s workshops aim to highlight these gaps and remedy them through sustainable and digitally advanced solutions.
- The National Air Transport Plan (PNTA), or PIANO NAZIONALE TRASPORTI AEREI (PNTA) in Italian, covers the period 2019-2024. This plan outlines Italy's objectives and strategies for improving the competitiveness and sustainability of its air transport system. The project could align with the PNTA's objective of improving air transport connectivity and sustainability, particularly in the southern regions of Italy. By promoting the development of feasibility studies of new air routes and air transport strategies to improve connectivity with Albania and other destinations, the project could support the PNTA's objective of enhancing the competitiveness and sustainability of Italy's air transport system. The project's focus on studying new air routes to overcome existing cross-border connectivity challenges in the southern Adriatic Sea could contribute to achieving this objective.
- The Airports of Puglia Development Plan, or Piano Strategico di Aeroporti di Puglia: It is a strategic document that outlines the development objectives and priorities for the airports in the Puglia region of Italy and is aimed at enhancing the competitiveness and attractiveness of the airports in the region, as well as improving the overall air connectivity of the region. The plan includes several key objectives, such as expanding airport capacity and infrastructure, improving the quality of airport services, and increasing the number of airlines and destinations served by the airports. The plan also aims to promote sustainable growth and development of the airport sector, while ensuring the protection of the environment and natural resources. In terms of the ON CLOUD NINE+ project, the Airports of Puglia Development Plan is relevant policy document to consider, particularly in terms of enhancing the connectivity of Puglia with Albania and Montenegro by valorizing Foggia airport. The project could align with the objectives of the development plan by promoting the development of air transport strategies to improve connectivity with Albania and Montenegro, and by supporting the sustainable growth and development of the airport sector in the Puglia region.
