(protected designation of origin) or P.G.I. (protected geographical indication). The main aim of the project is to efficiently promote the top quality and the competitive advantages of the local olive oils to domestic and international markets, focusing mainly on propping up their entrance to new markets and commercial networks. Furthermore, the project contributes to the establishment of a Network in the Olive Sector in order to develop and offer to the local olive oil companies innovative and global authenticity certification methods, tools, structures, and services.
- The proposed project has synergies with the implemented activities and goals achieved by the “Authentic-Olive-Net” project, as intends to build on the available knowledge regarding the methodology of authenticity and goes beyond it through the adaptation and testing to a larger number of beneficiaries, users and territories in the Med Area, as the olive oil samples that will be used they will concern not only 2 countries (Greece and Italy) but 7 countries and different types of olive oils. The result of this action is ensured by the P2 partner that had a critical role also in “Authentic-Olive-Net” project.

The methods developed will support the modern analytical methods for controlling the quality of oils, and will therefore become the element of innovation for the regional olive oil POs to guarantee the safety, origin and typicality of regional production. In addition, all the data collected have been implemented in an information system for oil mills which identified the typical characteristics of the oil produced in a specific geographical area and supported commercial policies to increase the competitiveness of Apulian oils. Furthermore, this information has been made accessible thanks to a smart label based on QR code / augmented reality to simplify the approach with the consumer.
