- SHAREPAIR - Digital Support Infrastructure for Citizens in the Repair Economy
- Interreg North-West Europe (2019-still ongoing) project, coordinated by the City of Leuven (BE) (AE partner), addresses the increasing amount of waste from electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). The project aims to decrease WEEE from consumer products by scaling up citizen repair initiatives through the use of digital tools: digital tools that stimulate and facilitate citizen repair by collecting repair solutions and making them easily accessible to citizens. The tools will target both consumers at home and more skilled repairers in repair cafés. They will also map and guide citizens towards high-quality professional repair services, and assemble, with the help of designers, a database of 3D-printing designs (open-source) for printing replacement parts. The objective is to decrease WEEE by 13,5 T per year in pilot repair cafés and by 175 T per year in the pilot cities. The project’s main output will be an integrated approach to supporting citizen repair: a digital infrastructure that supports self-repair, repairing together (in repair cafés or repair centers), and repairing with professional support. To sustain this infrastructure beyond the project lifetime, business and policy models will be developed with a view to setting up a European Open Repair Data Platform. The existing network will also be a valuable basis for stakeholder engagement and dissemination, and ongoing work on business and policy models will be capitalized for REPper recommendations and multi-level mobilizations. In addition, partner of SHAREPAIR is the Association des Consommateurs Test-Achats, member of the Euroconsumers network together with REPper partners AE, DECOP and OCU. - The Interreg ADRION project (Anatoliki partner) CIRCLE (2020-2022) is a project about implementing Circular Economy in the management of urban waste. Additionally, it introduces the roadmap for creating local labs on this specific thematic. The CIRCLab of Thessaloniki was established in the framework of the project and one of the ideas that has generated is the creation and operation of Repair Cafes at local level. There was a discussion on the different parameters of this project and two were the most important ones: 1. Creating a new consuming behavior and attitude, 2. Raising the repair competences of professionals. (EN), CIRCLE - Circular Innovation and Resilient City Labs in the Adrion Region

- Horizon (2019 – still ongoing) project (AE, OCU, DECOP partners) with the ambition to help extending the useful lifetime of products and to contribute to the transition to a circular economy. It aims at boosting durable design, providing access to repair services, upgrades and disassembly options. Furthermore, it intends to help reducing resource depletion, prevent waste generation and mitigate associated societal and environmental impacts. Within PROMPT project AE investigated repair habits and launch web tools to gather valuable information from consumers to identify needs or areas to prioritize (EN) | REPper project could gained from PROMPT complaints report that will help the project in identifying specific problems of products categories and could also gave information on the availability and willingness of people with respect of the possibility to repair products. As starting in 2016, the web platform Too Rap Kapot (www.terapkapot.be) enabled consumers to report products that had broken down too soon. It became one of the first crowd-sourced datasets of the types of products causing the most problems. This platform was extended to six other countries (Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain), building up a strong evidence base and vital insight into premature obsolescence and repairability.
- REPper could also gain insight from this project as it has also uncovered key consumer perspectives on repairing products. It found that high costs deter people from seeking a fix, finding it cheaper to buy a new appliance rather than repair it. It also found techniques and practices that make repairing impossible: such as a lack of replaceable parts, and physically locking down products so they can’t be opened and fixed without damaging the whole product. - The Interreg Europe project RUMORE (Anatoliki partner, 2017-2021) was about the exchange and development of ideas for rural-urban partnerships and innovation delivery. Part of the project outputs were related to circular economy and specifically how the longer life of projects, and thus resources saving, is linked to innovative design. Designing products in a smart and innovative way also means to make them repairable and reusable. The design innovation generates new entrepreneurship prospects. - Horizon project (2017-2020) aimed to transform plastic packaging waste into a resource (OCU partner). The project developed more sustainable, bio-based and recyclable plastics used for the manufacture of a wide range of products: trays, bottles, coffee capsules, jars, car parts, pallets, and new types of multi-layer and multi-material packaging. CIRC-PACK aimed to create biodegradable or compostable polyesters as well as smart eco-designs that make sorting easier, with improved recycling technologies that will increase recovery rates and ensure quality. - OCU will share with partners methodological insights to allow the adaptation and replication of workshops targeting industry, administration and civil society stakeholders to gather information about barriers/advantages of new solutions and will take advantage on the experience in managing social acceptance of bio-plastic packaging within CIRC-PACK project https://circpack.eu/fileadmin/user_upload/documents/05_-_Consumers_view_on_CIRC-PACK_-_OCU_-.pdf .
- This synergy can be helpful for the role that OCU will have in activity 3.2 mobilizing relevant multi-sectoral and multi-level decision makers, in order to make them aware about repair potentialities and its importance in the transition to circular systems. In particular they will be engaged in discussion about the best use of green public procurement (GPP) as "nudge policy". (FR) | The relevance of this project for REPper lies in its aspect of supporting citizen science and capacity building for the autonomisation of citizens, consumers and inhabitants in taking initiatives and making informed choices. In fact, open data accessibility and literacy is a strong asset for the DIY behaviors we want to support in the repair/reuse/recycle sector. - Horizon project (2021 – still ongoing, AE and OCU partners) with the aim to enhance decision making using information across the product life cycle to improve lifespan, repair, remanufacturing and recycling. The project will design a methodology for sharing information about the different stages of the products’ life cycle, focusing on environmental, social, economic and circular aspects. The overall goal is to create data linkages between product chain, value chain, asset chain and life cycle chains. Circularly use cases will be tested in Italy, Slovenia and Spain. (FR), CIRCTHREAD
