(DE), BeamPipes4ET will contribute to the development of the technologies required to build ET. The European Center for Particle Physics CERN is developing the vacuum system for ET based on current vacuum technologies. With BeamPipes4ET we will go beyond the current state-of-the-art and will develop new technologies that simplify the construction of the vacuum system and reduce its cost. CERN is willing to integrate our production concept for the vacuum pipes into the overall vacuum concept. Many aspects of the vacuum system, such as pumping, bake-out, or vacuum analysis and control are independent of the production method of the pipes. We will use them in full synergy. Other aspects, like cleaning or alignment are similar between the production concepts. We will develop the solutions together. (EN), BeamPipes4ET zal bijdragen aan de ontwikkeling van de technologieën die nodig zijn om ET te bouwen. Het Europees Centrum voor Deeltjesfysica CERN ontwikkelt het vacuümsysteem voor ET op basis van de huidige vacuümtechnologieën. Met BeamPipes4ET gaan we verder dan de huidige stand van de techniek en ontwikkelen we nieuwe technologieën die de constructie van het vacuümsysteem vereenvoudigen en de kosten verlagen. Contribution to wider strategies and policies:
- Other Our effort in BeamPipes4ET fits well into the general strategies and policies of the European territorial cooperation (ETC) as explained for example in the strategic approach to cohesion, innovation und transformation (KIT2021) by North-Rhine Westphalia and the Dutch provinces along the border. We jointly develop the potential of the region through cross-border cooperation.
- Our project links to other efforts in the region supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Interreg programs. One example is the UHV-lab under preparation at RWTH. It is in the final state of approval within the North-Rhine Westphalian ERDF program Forschungsstrukturen.NRW. On the one hand, the UHV-lab will extend the possibilities of testing the vacuum pipes developed in BeamPipes4ET and simplify the testing procedures. On the other hand BeamPipes4ET will contribute to the innovation created by the UHV-lab.
- BeamPipes4ET is linked to other Interreg projects in the region. Supported by the previous Interreg programs of Meuse-Rhine and Vlaanderen-Nederland an infrastructure for the development of technologies for the Einstein Telescope was created. The two most important components are the ETpathfinder installed at the University of Maastricht and the cryogenic test mirror at the Université de Liège. There will be extensive exchange and substantial synergies on the aspects of ultra-high vacuum between these projects and BeamPipes4ET.
- On a European scale BeamPipes4ET is embedded in the roadmap process of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI). It drives the development of a key technology for the Einstein Telescope, listed as one of the ESFRI projects.
