Relevant linked projects:
- NETWORLD: Networking in preserving the First World War multicultural heritage in the Danube countries (Programme: Danube Transnational Programe 2014-2020) (EN) | The main objectives of the NETWORLD project are to increase the awareness of the First World War heritage and its sustainable use for the development of quality cultural tourism.
- The NETWORLD specific project objectives refer to preparing a database, a strategy and a management plan for architectural First World War heritage, improving the cooperation between countries of the Danube region in order to commemorate the First World War centenaries, increasing awareness and visitor numbers of First World War heritage by providing diversified quality tourist promotion brochures and by demonstrating the common brand “Walk of Peace” in the Danube region, promoting the value of peace, based on a common commemoration of First World War shared past through e.g. transnational events, scientific conferences, youth exchanges, education tools.
- GOV4PeaCE will upgrade NETWORLD database and review of the existing WWI heritage methodology for management. (EN), WALKofPEACE: Sustainable development of WWI heritage between Alps and Adriatic (Program INTERREG V-A Italija-Slovenija 2014-2020) (EN) | WALKofPEACE was selected as the best Interreg EU project of the 2020. GOV4PeaCE will capitalise on the results, experience and knowledge about the interpretation and governance of First World War heritage in the cross-border area between Italy (Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto) and Slovenia and transfer the good practices to the transnational level. Experience of crossborder governance solution developed within Italy-Slovenia cross-border area will be upgraded, jointly evaluated, adapted and implemented in other participating territories of GOV4PeaCE project. Avoiding overlaps will be assured by the management structure, as the LP (PRC) and some other partners (Walk of Peace Foundation, Promoturismo FVG, VEGAL, SAZU ZRC) participate in both projects and their objective is to upgrade and upscale the cooperation in the governance of WWI heritage to a permanent pan-European transnational level. (EN), European Capital of Culture (ECoC) Nova Gorica – Gorizia 2025 (EN) | The title of ECoC is to raise awareness that the common space of European culture is the result of the joint contribution of various countries and cities. It is a voice of the arts and our common history, common cultural activities. Main focus is on community building, volunteering, tradition, innovation and sustainability. The nature of the ECoC nomination and activities is complementary to the activities proposed for the Project especially for its long-term effects, transferability and durability. Eligible area of ECoC will be the entire cross-border territory where LP PRC, PPs Walk of Peace Foundation, PromoTurismoFVG, ZRC SAZU and AP EZTS are operating. Crossobrder Walk of Peace and the WWI heritage will be one of the major themes of the joint ECoC project. In the whole ECoC cultural program will be included some organisations also from the PP’s territories as their citizens. (EN), Europe’s Last Peasant War: Violence and Revolution in Austria- Hungary and its Successors, 1917-1945 (Arts and Humanities Research Council, 01- 2021 – 12- 2022) (EN) | GOV4PeaCE will use the relevant knowledge about the historical processes in the Central-European region during and after the WWI and about the shaping of the memorial and memory landscape in the post-Habsburg nation states. The ‘Europe’s Last Peasant War’ project does not apply directly to the WWI heritage but to the research of the political situation in the last years of the war and afterwards, therefore there is no risk of overlapping the activities. (EN), Built military heritage of the Austro- Hungarian army (EN) | AP Mod IMMH is running a programme since 2020 to collect, describe and classify the military buildings in Hungary built between 1867 and 1918. The main types of these buildings are barracks, military hospitals, higher military authorities, military educational institutes, military industrial buildings and permanent forts. The output of the project will be an online searchable database with the description of the buildings, supplemented by blueprints, maps, postcards, archive photos and other types of depiction. (EN), Healthy Forest Regions: Supporting Healthy Forest Ecosystems for human well-being in Forest Regions (Interreg Central Europe Programme) (EN) | The aim of the project is regional development based on the ecosystem services provided by forest ecosystems and the socio-ecological transformation of the region based on them. The project involves a number of areas from the joint nomination of the World Natural Heritage site Old Beech Forests and Beech Forests of the Carpathian Mountains and other regions of Europe, where Europe's most precious beech forest ecosystems are found. The parthership also tests new tools and solutions fort he transition to ecosystem-based forest management in six regions. In this project Poloniny NP acts as one of the associated partners of the National Forestry Centre Zvolen. The project duration 01.04.2023 - 31.03.2026. Synergies will be mainly in the transfer of experience that will help in the process of transformation of the Poloniny NP area, including capacity building. (EN), MAB_FOR_NATURE (Interreg Central Europe Programme) (EN) | The aim of the project is to prepare a model system for the management of the UNESCO transboundary MaB area "Eastern Carpathians" and to support the effectiveness of other MaB areas in Central Europe by collecting existing good practices and developing new solutions for increasing their efficiency. The project was submitted within the same call for proposals of Interreg Central Europe Programme, specific objective 2.4: Safeguarding the environment in central Europe. Synergies will be mainly in the transfer of experience that will help in the process of transformation of the Poloniny NP area, including capacity building. It shares some points on the itinerary with Walk of Peace Italy - Slovenia. These two routes, together with others of a regional nature, offer several itineraries with historical, cultural and natural attractions and enhance, through sustainable tourism, an integrated tourist offer that aims to support the concepts of cross-border routes. GOV4PeaCE will capitalise on the partners’ (PromoturismoFVG) experience and lessons learnt of the integration of natural attractions and the implementation of the tourism related objectives into the development of cultural governance. (EN), Global Goals for Cities - GG4C (URBACT III 7952) (EN) | GG4C is a pilot network of 19 cities, a strategic partnership through peer learning and integrated action planning. Contribution to wider strategies and policies:
- EuropeanGreenDeal It will contribute to 2 key aspects of the EU Green Deal: sustainability and digitalisation.
- Transnational governance and digital platform for connected and sustainable WWI heritage functional territories will enhance environmentally and socially responsible management of WWI heritage. The development of an innovative sustainable transnational governance model for WWI heritage is a very important next step, as all partners want to capitalise on the work already done in the field of WWI heritage towards sustainability, durability and transferability. The digital tool for mapping the heritage, piloting the model and developing cross-border functional territories and network will promote green mobility (walking, cycling).
- Digitisation of WWI heritage, in particular a transnational database of WWI heritage, will support coordinated transnational governance efforts. Digitisation activities will bring the WWI heritage of the participating territories to a global audience, raise awareness of WWI and spread the message of peace to the digital native young generations. Digital solutions will be used in the preparation of new concepts for WWI museums. The project will create economic opportunities in underdeveloped or remote regions and stimulate rural development.
- TerritorialAgenda2030 It will contribute to the reduction of the East-West and Rural-Urban divide (Balanced Europe) by creating multi-dimensional and cross-territorial WWI heritage governance and by piloting the new model in different functional territories. It will enhance transnational WWI heritage governance and inclusive cooperation in the participating territories, thus creating economic and social opportunities in underdeveloped regions (Functional Europe). It will unlock the potential for sustainable tourism in cross-border areas by developing a new WWI heritage governance model (Integration Beyond Borders, Healthy Environment) and a digital platform, website (Sustainable Connections). Many capacity building and dissemination activities will strengthen the knowledge of PPs, APs, stakeholders and local people.
- EUStrategyDanubeRegion It will directly contribute to 2 priority areas: Institutional Capacity & Cooperation (PA 10) and Culture & Tourism (PA 2), as it will link PPs and APs from five participating countries of the Danube Region (Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia and Germany) in the development of a transnational WWI cultural heritage governance model, piloting the model in their functional territories for enhanced or future development of sustainable culture and tourism. Many multi-level and multi-sectoral collaborations in different activities among the partners and in their own territories will promote the exchange of expertise and strengthen institutional capacities and target groups involved. Many results can also be capitalised for projects in the Danube region.
- EUStrategyAdriaticIonianRegion By developing a multidimensional and cross-territorial governance model for the activation of WWI heritage to promote the sustainable socio-economic development of remote and rural territories, the project contributes to the development of EUSAIR Pillar 4, which concerns sustainable tourism, in particular in the following flagships
- -Training and skills in tourism businesses (professional and entrepreneurial skills),
- -Extending the tourist season throughout the year,
- -Development of sustainable and thematic cultural routes/connecting cultural routes in EUSAIR.
- Slovenian and Italian PPs and APs involved in GOV4PeaCE project can share, capitalise many results and outputs to the Adriatic-Ionian region.
- EUStrategyAlpineRegion PPs and APs from the Alpine region (Austria, Slovenia, Italy: Friuli-Venezia-Giulia, Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige) can share and capitalise on many results and outputs for the Alpine region. The GOV4PeaCE project provides important insights into EUSALP's cross-cutting policy area "Governance, including Institutional Capacity" through the joint development of a multi-dimensional and cross-territorial WWI heritage governance model and piloting activities, as well as many cross-border and intra-regional capacity building and dissemination activities.
- This model will contribute to the EUSALP governance model by
- - Linking to ongoing activities and attracting wider public (citizens and other target groups) and political attention;
- - Promoting solidarity and mutual understanding across sectors and space (between remote mountain areas and metropolises);
- -Develop cross-territorial activities with a common approach;
- -to define integrated actions for a sustainable governance structure.
- Other Council of Europe's European Heritage Strategy for the 21st Century and European Agenda for Culture / European Framework for Action on Cultural Heritage - The Framework promotes and implements an integrated and participatory approach to cultural heritage and contributes to the mainstreaming of cultural heritage in EU policies.
- The GOV4PeaCE project is in line with the key principles of the Framework (multi-stakeholder cooperation, holistic approach, mainstreaming and integrated approach - regional, urban, rural development, education, social cohesion). It complements the five pillars of the Framework (cultural heritage for an inclusive, sustainable, resilient and innovative Europe and stronger global partnerships).
