Project end date: 2026-06-30
Project status:
ongoingRelevant linked projects:
- WOOL – Wool as outstanding opportunity for leverage,
- INTERREG V-B ADRION Programme 2014-2020
- The WOOL project was innovatively addressing wool and pastoral heritage in the Adrion area. A comprehensive mapping of sheep-breeders, wool processors and wool producers has been conducted in Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Greece. The analysis of the situation showed that over 90% of wool is either landfilled or burned in our partner regions in Central Croatia, B&H and ME.
- The common challege of the wider area is the lack any wool washing and processing capacities.
- The project also provided numerous capacity building events for local stakeholders, addresing relevant topics - from sheep shearing to small-scale wool washing, carding, spinning, weaving and other product design techniques.
- As a consequence, the awareness, knowledge and motivation to work with wool increased among numerous stakeholders. (EN) | The WOOL project contributed to the preservation of the natural and cultural heritage through the capacity building, production, refinement, and promotion of wool products that are deeply rooted in the local traditions of the regions involved, improving regional cooperation and knowledge transfer in the Adriatic-Ionian area.
- Wool as a material is well consistent with the principles of circular economy and efforts of the Green-Tex project as it is a 100% natural fibre. It inherently supports environment by being easily reusable and recyclable. Woollen products have an exceptionally long lifespan, meaning that they can often be passed from one generation to the next. The fibres can be recycled without chemicals and used to make new products. When wool is released into the land and water, it provides important nutrients to the natural environment which is another relevant aspect of circular economy.
- LP1, PP3 and PP6, as a former partners of the WOOL project, will be responsible for providing all information and lessons learned from the project. The WOOL project solutions will be analysed during the parameterisation of existing tools (Activity 1.1 and 1.2) and then proposed to local stakeholders for their scalability within Pilot 2 which will also be led by the project partner who has been actively involved in WOOL project implementation. Our partners from Bulgaria are interested in exploring opportunities for a wider application of wool in recycled textile production. Another area of adding value to the previous project is also the creation of new fabric blends, combining wool and hemp which will also be tested within Pilot 2. All of that, along with the expansion of the territory to Serbia and Bulgaria, will contribute to the transfer and upscaling of learnings from Adrion Wool project. (EN), SCIRT - Horizon 2020 project -
- The currently ongoing EU-funded SCIRT project is developing solutions for the increasing volumes of collected textiles. It is supporting systemic innovation towards a more circular fashion system and bridging the current supply-demand gap for recycled textile fibres.
- SCIRT demonstrated an entire textile-to-textile recycling system for post-consumer textiles, focusing on the recycling of natural and synthetic fibres, as well as fibre blends. SCIRT aims to enable conditions and supporting measures to facilitate this transition, giving special attention to the consumer perspective.
- (EN) | The Green-Tex project is complementary to the efforts of SCIRT project as it will enable the up-take of SCIRT's practices in the Danube programme territory. In particular, the Green-Tex project will carefully study the following SCIRT’s studies: "State-of-the art of the fashion system", "Identified market needs for recycled fibres" and will apply relevant tools and learnings in the field of awareness-raising.
- PP5 is a member of the User Board of SCIRT and will make sure that methodology and solutions will be incorporated into the Green-Tex D1.4.1 (Scalable Circular Economy-based Green-Tex Solutions).
- The Green-Tex project is also adding value to SCIRT by transferring and upscaling its learnings in new territories, such as Slovenia, Slovakia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia. (EN), ENTeR project, interreg Central Europe 2014-2020
- ENTeR focused on waste reduction to prevent depletion of non-renewable resources in the textile industry. Its aim was to strengthen the innovation capacity of textile companies in central Europe, improve sustainable links among industrial textile areas and foster closer cooperation on waste management and circular economy.
- Partners from five Central European countries participated in this project: Italy (Lombardy), Germany (Saxony), Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland.
- (EN) | ENTeR has developed several outputs which will be carefully studied within the Green-Tex project during the development of the Green-Tex solutions for piloting (SO1).
- These specific outputs are:
- - a system capable of enhancing the value of industrial textile waste based on the characterization and classification of their properties and using an online platform (M3P) for the matching of “materials and waste”.
- – ENTeR pilot cases implemented in Italy (on the topic of Recollection, recycling and waste management of stock), in Hungary (addressing Wool Waste) and in Czech Republic (on the topic of Reduction of the waste generation through prolongation of the service life of textile products).
- The Green-Tex project will add value to above ENTeR pilots by conducting pilot testing in expanded and refined context in the Danube partner regions.
- (EN), PORETEKS Interreg Slovenia-Croatia - Reuse and recycling of textile waste to the environmental protection in the cross-border area
- The specific cross-borders objectives of the project were:
- - to improve and raise environmental awareness among polluters and inhabitants;
- - to inform target groups about the innovative products of the project,
- - the creation of web and mobile applications for waste management,
- - management of textile waste for re-use (fashion products) and recycling (insulating material);
- - cross-border exchange of know-how in the field of reuse and recycling of waste textile products.
- (EN) | This project has improved the financial, social and environmental status of the target groups, not only by reducing costs related to the generation and management of waste and cleaner and healthier living environment, but also offers new opportunities for the development of innovation, entrepreneurship, tourism and workplaces in rural areas.
- Attractive green fashion designes have been created and the team of PP7 was actively involved.
- Learnings from the green fashion design process will be applied within the Green-Tex project. Products of textile waste may represent a new image of Slovenia and Croatia in the future, where the focus will be to use resources that would otherwise burden the environment, to develop local jobs, social entrepreneurship and to develop an environmentally responsible society, which will give advantage of reuse and recycling with its participation in the process of waste management.
- (EN), Textile Recycling for Sustainable Solutions
- IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme Serbia-Montenegro
- Measure 1.1: Improving the productivity and competitiveness of the area’s economic, rural, cultural and natural resources.
- The overall objective of the project was to contribute to creating conditions for employment of vulnerable groups in Serbia and Montenegro. Specific goal of the project was to increase competitiveness of vulnerable groups in Western Serbia (Užice) and Northern Montenegro(Niksic) through established system for collecting, processing and distribution recycling textile.
- The project has been implemented in 2014 – 2015. (EN) | PP9, Regional Development Agency “Zlatibor“, participated in the implementation of this project and will share valuable lessons learned. The Green-Tex project will create synergies with the following two main results of this previously implemented project:
- 1. based on the capacities of both partner associations for operating in the recycled textile market and a total of 40 women trained for the production of recycled textile products, the Green-Tex tools for solutions will be developed. Also, the Montenegrin team of “Pilot 3: Testing Green Fashion Design” will get in touch with some of the trained women to further support them with green fashion design solutions;
- 2. awareness raising activities within SO2 - Pilot 2 and Pilot 3 - (implemented in Serbia and Montenegro) will build on results of previous work within which local and wider communities were introduced to textile recycling as an effective way of solving the problems in the areas such as: social employment, ecology and sustainable development.
