In the border area of Upper Austria and Lower Bavaria there are many rocks and stones that are associated with distinctive designations, traditions or field names and have fabulous names. These stone natural monuments are part of the cultural heritage of our landscapes. By researching, recording and documenting the rocks and stones, a glimpse into the cultural memory of the landscape should be released and published. The category "Natural Monuments" is a category of small and field monument research in addition to sacred and profane small monuments. The sub-category stone refers to all objects made of rock and stone that have a cultural background, characterize the landscape in some way or have a special rarity value. Only a few of them have been declared and protected as natural monuments. The denser settlement of our habitats is destroying more and more our cultural and natural landscape and particularly valuable and irretrievable elements from it. By recording and documenting the stone monuments in our landscape and their cultural-historical research, knowledge about them can be secured and a new awareness of the antiquities created. At the same time, the regional identity can be promoted and sustainable tourism stimulated. This is also made accessible to the general public through publication of the project results and accompanying public relations work. The research area extends to the ARGE EUREGIO region with the districts RO, UU, FR, PE in the Mühlviertel and BR, SD, RI, GR in the Innviertel/Hausruck as well as PA, FRG, REG, DEG, PAN, AÖ in Bavaria. The stone natural monuments clearly demonstrate the common cultural area on the Inn and Danube. The joint project with partners from Upper Austria and Lower Bavaria aims to highlight the common cultural and historical reference. project: 01.01. bis 31.12.2023

Im Grenzraum Oberösterreich und Niederbayern sind viele Felsen und Steine zu finden, die mit markanten Bezeichnungen, Überlieferungen oder Flurnamen verbunden sind und sagenhafte Namen tragen. Diese steinernen Naturdenkmale sind Teil des Kulturerbes unserer Landschaften. Durch die Erforschung, Erfassung und Dokumentation der Felsen und Steine soll ein Blick in das kulturelle Gedächtnis der Landschaft freigegeben und veröffentlicht werden. Die Kategorie „Naturdenkmale“ ist neben sakralen und profanen Kleindenkmälern eine Kategorie der Klein- und Flurdenkmalforschung. Die Unterkategorie Stein bezieht sich dabei auf alle Objekte aus Fels und Stein, die kulturelle Hintergründe besitzen, die Landschaft in irgend einer Weise prägen oder einen besonderen Seltenheitswert besitzen. Nur wenige davon sind durch Bescheid zum Naturdenkmal erklärt worden und geschützt. Die dichtere Besiedlung unserer Lebensräume zerstört immer mehr unsere Kultur- und Naturlandschaft und besonders wertvolle und unwiederbringliche Elemente daraus. Durch die Erfassung und Dokumentation der Steindenkmäler in unserer Landschaft und deren kulturhistorische Erforschung kann das Wissen darüber gesichert und ein neues Bewusstsein für die Altertümer geschaffen werden. Gleichzeitig kann die regionale Identität befördert und ein nachhaltiger Tourismus angeregt werden. Dies wird durch eine Veröffentlichung der Projektergebnisse und begleitende Öffentlichkeitsarbeit auch der Bevölkerung zugänglich gemacht. Das Forschungsgebiet erstreckt sich auf die Region der ARGE EUREGIO mit den Bezirken RO, UU, FR, PE im Mühlviertel und BR, SD, RI, GR im Innviertel/Hausruck sowie PA, FRG, REG, DEG, PAN, AÖ in Bayern. Die steinernen Naturdenkmale demonstrieren in anschaulicher Weise den gemeinsamen Kulturraum an Inn und Donau. Durch das gemeinsame Projekt mit Partnern aus Oberösterreich und Niederbayern soll der gemeinsame kulturhistorische Bezug herausgestellt werden. Projektlaufzeit: 01.01. bis 31.12.2023

Expected Achievements (EN): The aim is the public perception of the cultural-historical significance of natural monuments made of stone and the importance of care and protection. This is to be achieved through their research and conveyed through brochures, media and presentations.

Expected Achievements (DE): Ziel ist die öffentliche Wahrnehmung der kulturhistorischen Bedeutung der Naturdenkmäler aus Stein und die Wichtigkeit von Pflege und Schutz. Dies soll durch deren Erforschung erreicht und mittels Broschüre, Medien und Präsentation vermittelt werden.
