Project status:
ongoingRelevant linked projects:
- SMARTRIVER - SMART RIVER COMMUNITIES, involving 6 river basins affected by climate change impacts (Misa, Glafkos and Charadros, Neretva, Drava, Vjosa, Bosna), is based on three high territorial challenges: (i) increasing the climate adaptation capacity of river communities; (ii) creating a smarter model of governance, by enhancing PPs’ capabilities to transnationally tackle climate-change in river basins (iii) promoting active participation of local communities in planning risk reduction strategies. The project promotes the development of 6 Flooding Risk Reduction Plans within the framework of River Contracts, setting up common methodologies,, structured knowledge exchange and capacity building actions, promoting a transnational model of governance to reduce climate change impact in the Adriatic-Ionian Macro-region. (EN) | The final results and ouputs can be an important resource for PRIMES Project thank to: (i) The results related to the River Contract Methodology application. We could be consider the possibility to transfer part of this methodology in the implementation of the Water Management Plans to be designeds in WP3; (ii) the flooding issue is strictly link to the drought issue. So that, the six river communities could be also interested to explore the possibility to be part of the Transnatioanl Water Forum and test the PRIMES Guidelines. (iii)The Lead partner of the Smart-River Project (Muncipality of Senigallia) is one of the 44 Municipalities serve by VIVA Servizi (LP). So they will be part of the Pilot Community which will implement the WP3 process, of course. (EN), DRIDANUBE - Drought Risk in the Danube Region - The main objective of DriDanube project is to increase the capacity of the Danube region to manage drought related risks. The project aims at helping all stakeholders involved in drought management become more efficient during drought emergency response and prepare better for the next drought - https://www.interreg-danube.eu/approved-projects/dridanube (EN) | The Project is one of the most recent project funded by INTERREG-Danube and can be useful for providing: (i) New approaches and changes in drought management; (ii) Drought impact inventories: experiences and trends ; (iii) Involving Relevant Stakeholder from Scientific/Public/Private Sector to bring their experiences and knowledge to support the participative process to be implemented in WP3. (EN), DISARM - Drought and fire observatory and early warning system. The project aims at developing an integrated set of services to support prediction and promote prevention of drought and wild land fires. The overall objective is to deliver an innovative, integrated observatory platform and an early warning system that will serve as a key tool for protecting the environment, thus promoting sustainable development in the region. It is EUR 1 028 547, with the EU’s European Regional Development Fund contributing EUR 874 265 through the “Interreg Balkan-Mediterranean” Cooperation Programme for the 2014-2020 programming period. The investment falls under the priority “Environment”. (EN) | We could joint their final results and mostly study their Early Warning system in order to get useful information for developing the PRIMES ICT infrastructure, above all the Drought-Alert-App [WP2/A2.1/2.2/2.3] (EN), The Historic Droughts (http://historicdroughts.ceh.ac.uk ) project is a interdisciplinary project funded by the UK Research Councils. It aims to develop an interdisciplinary understanding of drought and water scarcity in the UK from a range of different perspectives (hydrometeorological, environmental, agricultural, regulatory, social and cultural). The project will deliver the first systematic account (the UK Drought Inventory) of past droughts (since the late 19th century) in the UK. The Inventory will form the basis of a novel joint hydro-meteorological and socio-economic analysis that will lead to a ‘systems-based’ understanding of drought – i.e. an understanding of the multiple and interconnected drivers of drought, the impacts of drought and the feedbacks between them. We expect this systems-based understanding to improve decision-making for future drought management and planning, and to facilitate more informed and thus effective public discourse related to drought. (EN) | This project could be provide us with an important methodologies for collecting historical data and building the Historical Atlas of Drought in Adrion Region [D2.2.4] to be included in the PRIMES Tool-kit [A2.2] and in the Web-Platform [A2.1]. (EN), DROP - ‘Benefit of governance in DROught adaPtation.
- DROP was a transnational project and integrated knowledge from science, policy and practice. The project was implemented through collaboration between six regional water authorities (practice partners) and five knowledge institutes (knowledge partners). The project aimed to enhance the preparedness and resilience of Northwest European (NWE) regions to such periods of drought and water scarcity. DROP integrates knowledge from science, policy and practice. http://www.dropproject.eu. - The DROP project received European Regional Development Funding through INTERREG IVB. (EN) |
- It's a quite old project, but it is a very good practice and can be considered an important source of inspiration to be follow. The partnership is formed by six regional water authorities and this is an imporantant "plus". They can be absolutely involved as experts in the first part of the project in order to provide lessons learnt and to share their project results. They can also be be involved as key-expert for reviewing the Primes guidelines. We could also activate a joint cooperation for possible future follow-up projects on exchanging practices form Norh and South Europe Communities. (EN), XEROCHORE project. The objective of XEROCHORE project (xerochore (Greek) means “dry land”) is to synthesize knowledge on past and future droughts and to compile a roadmap on research needs. It will initiate a long lasting platform that communicates drought related research and policy making beyond the lifetime of the project through an extension of EDC. Different scientific drought communities (hydrology, climatology, impacts, water management, policy), water managers, stakeholder representatives, planners, policy-analysts and decision-makers will be involved, who come from Europe, neighborhood countries and overseas. (EN) | The project can be useful for supporting the Implementation of resilient community Profile especially regarding the Greece Area. The could be also part of the PP6 LDC helping them to implement locally the WP3 activities. (EN), I-CHANGE - Citizen science for monitoring and forecasting weather events – project goal engaging citizenship to raise awareness. Actions carried out in various parts of the European Union (and beyond): data collection through citizen science activities, educational and information pathways to understand the impact of daily behaviors on the environment, living labs, creation of customized information systems and web portals. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101037193. (https://ichange-project.eu) (EN) | This project can be considered an important case study on how is possible to involve proactively citizens in a partitpatoriy planning process for the effective implementation of the Early Warning System. Partner of this project is also the City of Bologna, the head city of Emilia Romagna Region, The same Regional Area where Romagna Acque (PP7) is acting. So that, they could be involved in WP3 activity as technical part for bringing their previous experiences and supporting PP7 and all consortium in implementing WP2 and WP3. (EN), THE DROUGHT INITIATIVE – UNCCD
- The Drought Initiative focuses on: setting up drought preparedness systems, particularly national drought plans; working together at the regional level to reduce drought vulnerability and risk; providing a toolbox that stakeholders can use to boost the drought resilience of both people and ecosystems.
- Leading up to 2030, UNCCD will focus on improving the resilience of vulnerable populations and ecosystems by assisting socially vulnerable and poverty-stricken communities to recover from natural and human-made disasters.
- A central part of the Drought Initiative is the Drought Toolbox which countries can use to develop and strengthen their national drought plans. The Toolbox developed by the UNCCD, together with its partners (including the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Global Water Partnership and World Meteorological Organization), features a number of technical and policy options.
- The tools can be used to assess drought vulnerability and risk, and prioritize feasible drought mitigation intervention measures. It contains case studies and other resources, such as 14 validated national drought plans, that stakeholders can use to design and implement their own national drought plans. (EN) | This is the most important initiate to which the PRIMES Project is inspired. The PRIMES toolkit can be developed by adapting from Drought Toolbox By UNCCD. Furthermore the initiative provides lots of case studies, and important methodological resources to support the design of the National Drought Policy Plan with the aim of boosting the resilience of people and ecosystems to drought.
