- OIS-AIR (EN) | OIS–AIR project was working on establishing and developing the Open Innovation System of the Adriatic-Ionian Region and has set up the base for the INNOVABLUE project. Through its Hub, within the project it has local assets and excellences-research infrastructures, incubators and accelerators, specializations, human capital to create a critical mass, crucial to meet the tech&inno needs of SMEs and generate societal growth. Its focus was on strategic planning and policy commitment; skills development; design of tailored tools, methodologies & services; deployment of pilot industry-research collaboration schemes in different fields and sectors. INNOVABLUE will built on its results by working with some of the same Partners organizations CCE and TPLJ but also AREA Science Park as Associated partners but also focus on one specific sector blue economy and subsector of marine (blue) technologies and accompanied innovations using and capitalizing detected potential through OIS-AIR. (EN), BEAT (EN) | Project BEAT financed by the first call of Standard + Interreg Italy – Croatia 2014 – 2020 programme was focused to promote a transnational cluster to sustain the economic development of Italian and Croatian actors in the Blue Economy sectors. INNOVABLUE will built on the results produced by the project especially drawing conclusions and lessons learned from created cross-border cluster in maritime and shipbuilding sectors including actors and SMEs in other sectors of blue sector chain. These lessons will especially be important for the work under the WP1 where INNOVABLUE will look into upgrade of the innovation community but also in the WP4 where technology transfer activities will surly be relevant for shipbuilding companies and research organization having innovation relevant for this context. (EN), BLUETECH (EN) | BLUETECH PROJECT was financed by the target call on EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region EUSAIR of IPA cross border cooperation 2007 – 2013. Its overall objective was to contribute to the development of macro regional Cluster technologies in green shipbuilding sector in the Adriatic-Ionian area pursuing the purposes identified by the Topic “Blue Technologies” – Pillar 1 “Blue Growth” of the European Union strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAR) through the development of a feasibility study, a networking platform, consultation and promotion in the territory. Similar to other projects and initiatives listed here BLUETECH Is focused on shipbuilding and INNOVABLUE will use its insights for the involvement of new actors in the community but will look beyond shipbuilding and focus on the results of the project in relation to key players in the area regarding marine (blue) technologies. (EN), Financial Instruments for Innovation - Innova-FI (EN) | Financial Instruments for Innovation - Innova-FI partners are seeking to improve the design and implementation of Financial Instruments as a delivery mode of Structural Funds, so that they best meet and serve the financing needs of innovative and RTDI-driven businesses in all the stages of their start-up and growth. Innova-FI partners will do this by learning about the innovation landscape, and how it is being publicly financed, in partner regions. This initiative will be a relevant point of reference for the activities under the WP3 where INNOVABLE is looking to diversify funding mechanisms for blue technologies in different regions especially those less developed. (EN), Blue Bio Med (EN) | The Blue bioeconomy in the Mediterranean needs better governance of innovation policies, with a transnational approach, focusing on fulfilling the Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through innovation. BLUE BIO MED aims at bridging the transnational governance frameworks active in the Mediterranean area (i.e. UfM, UNEP-MAP, EUSAIR, WestMed, Bluemed Initiative, etc.) with the territorial - regional/national – policy making. R&I strategies for smart specialisation (RIS3) are the key entry point to understand and orient the innovation trends and priorities across MED regions and connect transnational cooperation with investments for growth and jobs of the Cohesion Policy. The project BLUEBIOMED will be an open platform for an inclusive co-design process with the wider innovation community promoting a bottom-up MED Innovation Alliance for the blue bioeconomy to streamline multiple efforts and initiatives around the Mediterranean. BLUE BIO MED will support the start-up of the Alliance to boost the Mediterranean leadership in transformative innovation of the blue economy. Contribution to wider strategies and policies:
- EUStrategyAdriaticIonianRegion EUSAIR among other aims to promote sustainable economic and social prosperity with a focus on areas of (macro) mutual interest. One of the PILLAR 1: BLUE GROWTH, objectives is promoting research, innovation and business opportunities in
- the sectors of the blue economy, in order to respond to the need to encourage cooperation between research and the public and private sector,
- as well as users, to develop innovative products and services and transfer technologies. It contributes to the overall objective of Pillar 1 and Action plan because INNOVABLUE with its jointly developed innovative network for marine (blue) technologies together with transnational solutions will enhance circulation between research and
- business communities, increase their capacity to network and cooperate and access to finances It's referring to pillar 3 because it is mission oriented on sustainability of Adriatic Sea by creating innovation ecosystem that will enhance development of new innovative solutions for
- monitoring of sea pollution as support for efficient and sustainable use of resources
- EuropeanGreenDeal Protecting the environment and oceans as they represent a source of natural and economic wealth for Europe is a must. Preservation and protection is needed in order to ensure that they continue sustaining Europe and the world population in the future.
- European Green Deal priorities include
- - protecting our biodiversity and ecosystems
- - reducing air, water and soil pollution
- - moving towards a circular economy
- - improving waste management
- - ensuring the sustainability of our blue economy and fisheries sectors
- By working on these key areas, the EU will improve the health and quality of life of citizens, address environmental problems and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
- INNOVABLUE through its activities is working on development of marine (blue) and other blue habitats in the region such as rivers and lakes technologies that will enable digital and green transformation of blue economy sectors so they will have lower impact on Adriatic sea and become
- more sustainable. There is a pressing need for innovative solutions that can efficiently be deployed on mass scale to cover larger areas and to enable the further research and adoptive measures in the blue economy sector.
- Other Smart Specialization Strategy of participating countries on national and regional level involve different sectors and niches of Blue economy. Indeed, investing in the blue economy it requires interaction and cooperation between financial instruments at national and international level. Each participating country has some specifies in relation to the S3 strategies however there are common directions and focus and this will be coordinated and researched but also taken to the transnational level by work under the WP 2 mainly but also under WP4 in the context of transfer of technology.
