Description (EN):

Baltic Biking UPGRADE (BBU) will address the significant challenges of SMEs along the South Baltic part (PL,LT,SE,DK,DE) of the Baltic Sea Cycle Route – EuroVelo10 (EV10) when the SMEs are to create attractive bookable offers and successfully reach out to foreign markets. These challenges are mainly due to a lack of knowledge, underdeveloped bicycle-friendly standards, services & offer & a lack of business contacts and partnerships with relevant peers. This shall be achieved via: ▪ Rolling out bicycle-friendly services along the EV10: Based on cross-border knowledge transfer, basic standards for bicycle-friendly tourism SME offer&services are adopted and rolled out in the PPs countries. A training programme equips SMEs with tools and know-how to develop new offers &provide them to cycle tourists. ▪ Creating new SME products & offers for customers around the EV10: Matchmaking activities build up a cooperation network among different actors from all. Participating SMEs are supported to jointly develop new regional and/or cross-border cycling tourism products & offer for EV10 cyclists that can be promoted internationally. ▪ Joint marketing of the EV10 SMEs offer on various markets: The jointly developed new cycling tourism SME products & offers are promoted on the SBA market & beyond. This includes e.g. ready-to-use marketing strategy for SMEs, participation in cycle-specific tourism fairs, improvement of existing promotional tools to support SMEs' business like EuroVelo 10.com website, fam-trips for tour operators, journalists/influencers. ▪ Strengthening the strategic development & management of the EV10: A network of actors from all EV10 countries is built up for joint development of the EV 10. It is the basis for exchanging ideas & expertise & interaction among SMEs (BBu Platform) and their improved offer, as well as a coordinated long-term development of the route explained in the transnational Action Plan. BBU is in line with the Interreg objective: more competitive and smarter Europe by promoting innovative and smart economic transformation (…), and thus SBP Objective 1- Innovative South Baltic – enhancing innovation and internationalisation of local actors. Programme claims “SBA has a significant economic potential for CBC, especially in the blue and green economy sectors”,this includes biking & tourism sectors. We see great potential to boost the SBA economy, SME performance and internationalisation level by developing new biking-friendly offers & services. We will also increase their level of internationalisation by introducing new partnerships &cross-border offers among SMEs from SBA area and beyond. The programme states that the expansion of SMEs requires: - efficient cross-border learning and networking platforms (BBU delivers), -business advisory services (BBU delivers) - matchmaking actions (BBU delivers) to assist them in moving from domestic to international business practices. Biking tourism is well-suited sector to enhance the SME’s offer, as the EV10 is already developed in some regions and, its further, even development will benefit all-SBA biking tourism ecosystem. BBU will boost the economic growth of SMEs in SBA while creating a new platform with networking, matchmaking &promo possibilities for new/improved bicycle-friendly offers. SBA is ideally suited to enrol these activities, considering significant EV10 improvements from the former Biking South Baltic project and fact that the SBA area represents 30% of the EuroVelo 1 - ca.2,600km. Building a well-working bicycle-friendly tourism ecosystem around EV10 is critical to use its full potential available to SMEs. EV10 is yet inequally developed in SBA with firm SME offer in DK, good conditions in DE and Pl, moderate in LT & relatively underdeveloped in southern Sweden. Thus if we wish to introduce a cross-border EV10 offer to unlock SMEs’ internationalisation and increase their performance, we must develop both the EV10 route and SME’s offer simul
