The BALTICBEAT project will undertake initiatives addressing one of the critical challenges, namely, increasing the use of renewable energy and developing energy communities based on clean energy. Cross-border cooperation will lead to the development of toolkits supporting local administration, SMEs, and citizens in implementing solutions for the production and utilization of renewable energy. Furthermore, it will it will help support local communities interested in establishing energy communities based on renewable energy sources (RES) and innovative energy storage methods. The aim of the project is to increase renewable energy production in the South Baltic area by providing local actors with a set of tools to facilitate the preparation of this production and the management of RES, in particular to help create and develop energy communities. The use of project’s tools will result in enhancement of knowledge and interest in the proposed solutions among identified stakeholder groups. This will contribute to an increased share of green energy in the energy mix of the regions involved in the project. BALTICBEAT will conduct activities aimed at developing a common approach to address the challenge of the low share of renewable energy in the energy mix of individual countries. Standardizing this approach on a cross-border scale will facilitate the gathering and exchange of information on progress in implementing the adopted strategy. It will also exert pressure on regulators to create incentives and legal regulations to foster the implementation of innovative technological (in the field of clean energy) and organizational (in the creation of energy communities) solutions. Peer-to-peer learning and sharing of best practices on a cross-border level will raise awareness about the successful implementation of proposed solutions in one region, ultimately accelerating activity in other regions to level the playing field for involved stakeholders. Regarding the project partners and identified stakeholder groups, BALTICBEAT will for the first time introduce toolkits that: Strengthen the capacity of key local stakeholder groups to create and manage local energy communities and guide energy transformation processes at the local level. Moreover it will support the involvement of local communities in initiating and implementing energy transformation initiatives at the local level. These tools will be reinforced by a cross-border advisory platform and specialized, tailor-made training services to enhance the utilization of RES in the South Baltic Area (SBA). This will also facilitate the development of common behavioural patterns to overcome challenges and mobilize regional opportunities in the field of renewable energy. All project products will be designed and delivered in such a way, as to enable their adaptation and upscaling in other regions of the SBA. The project will be implemented in a cross-border manner in four countries of the South Baltic area. The partnership has been established in a balanced way to ensure optimal implementation. Four countries are represented and the partners are 3 research institutions, 2 NGOs, a business environment institution linked to the regional authorities and an SME. In addition, the project will be supported by 5 APs, selected to represent all target groups and to test and implement the project's solutions.
