Description (EN):

The project is a response to similar problems identified by the Partners in the PL/UA border region related to insufficient green areas in urbanized areas or their low quality, which directly affects issues of biodiversity conservation in inhabited areas, the occurrence of the urban heat island phenomenon, spatial order, or the implementation of principles of sustainable development as a whole. Through the implementation of the project, the Partners also want to initiate and promote cross-border cooperation in the field of environmental protection, so that actions taken on both sides of the border are consistent with each other and jointly produce a synergetic effect. The main objective of the project is to strengthen the protection of existing green areas and increase the area of green spaces, as well as to preserve biodiversity in the urbanized region of the border through the renovation of 1 park and the construction of 1 park on the UA side as well as the construction of 9 pocket parks on the PL side. The effects of the project will be noticeable in many aspects: - Improvement of the quality of the local natural environment through the protection and increase of green areas conducive to biodiversity conservation, reducing the urban heat island effect, supporting natural retention, and reducing urban pollution - Improvement of quality of life- thanks to the implementation of the project, residents of areas affected by its activities will gain attractive green areas for relaxation and recreation, which will have a positive impact on their well-being and health - Social integration, inclusion of socially excluded individuals in the life of the local community - the opportunity to spend time in a shared attractive public space for residents - Improvement of spatial order and aesthetics of the city through the development of degraded areas The main product: 9 new pocket parks in the city of Siedlce 1 revitalized park in the town of Horodok 1 new park in the municipality of Pryvilne (village of Ivanne) 1 "Action Plan"- a jointly developed document defining the action plan for environmental education in the border areas between PL and UA The main beneficiaries of these products will be the local governments and residents of the project areas, who will gain access to attractive green spaces that directly improve living conditions in urban areas, as well as educational institutions that will receive an innovative document serving as the basis for modern environmental education. However, the infrastructure created/revitalized as part of the project will be accessible to all interested parties, including people with disabilities. When it comes to environmental issues, administrative boundaries are not of great significance. Environmental problems can occur to the same extent on both sides of the border. The border only determines the regulations that apply to the partners regarding nature conservation and climate change prevention. As Poland is a member of the EU it is bound by strict guidelines for its members (such as achieving climate neutrality by 2050). However achieving these goals in the border areas of PL and the EU is not solely dependent on the efforts of individual entities due to the transboundary nature of pollution - the efforts of one side can be undermined by the lack of similar actions on the other side of the border. Therefore joint efforts are needed in the border areas to protect the natural environment as best as possible. With this in mind the applicants have decided to form a partnership and establish a common path for environmental protection in their respective areas and, in general, in the PL/UA border area. Based on the positive results of previous programs the partners hope that their efforts will also serve as motivation for greater interest in protecting the natural resources of the border region as a common good of both countries and lead to the establishment of further transboundary agreements.
