Cancer is one of the greatest challenges for health systems around the world, including in Poland and Ukraine. Due to the increased risk of cancer and the epidemiological situation in this area, continuous improvement of standards and modernization of healthcare facilities as well as increasing the efficiency of providing health services and improving organizational processes in the field of oncology is crucial for improving the quality of treatment. The main objective of the project is to develop cross-border cooperation between healthcare units from the Polish-Ukrainian border area in the field of early detection and combating cancer in this area. Establishing a lasting, long-term cooperation between the Bialystok Oncology Center and the Lviv Cancer Center will be possible through regular contact (exchange of experience) of these entities in the field of prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. Implementation of the project will be a complementary undertaking with many activities of the unit in the area of cancer prevention. First of all, it will improve the quality and availability of oncological diagnostics and treatment of patients suffering from cancer for the largest entity in the region providing medical services in the field of oncology The cross-border approach plays a very important role in the implementation of this project. The Polish partner has experience in the use of spectral CT in diagnosis and treatment, which is not available at the Lviv Oncology Center. Accordingly, the Polish partner can help with the quick mastering of this device and carrying out diagnostics with it, taking into account their knowledge and experience. The Lviv Oncological Center has a fairly developed system of endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases. The Lviv Cancer Center has the largest number of cancer patients in Ukraine. This makes it possible to analyze the methods of treatment and diagnosis on a large scale and through the exchange of knowledge and practical experience to help the Polish partner to improve its system of diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases. The partners have the human resources necessary for the proper use of the equipment and financial resources that will be used, if necessary, for maintenance and possible repairs of the purchased equipment. Considering the above and the practices used in hospitals in Poland and Ukraine, consisting in making every effort to ensure that the equipment used is used for the benefit of patients. It is certain that it will be used both in the frame of the project and further beyond the duration of the project. After the completion of the project, the treatment and activities started during the project will be continued as a part of the functioning of the core mission of both partners organizations in Poland and Ukraine. The costs of maintaining the project results will be financed from own funds and from external funds obtained by the partners as part of their activities. The equipment will be used in particular for the benefit of the target groups of the cross-border area.
