A common challenge in the Programme area that the partners intend to deal with is to improve the quantity and quality of the rescue and firefighting equipment and the training of fire brigades in order to counteract the observed climate changes and the natural disasters caused by them. The negative impacts of global climate change have intensified over the last few years. The number of fires is increasing, but also other events such as floods, storms, damage to buildings. Therefore, it is very important to improve the equipment of firefighters with modern equipment for fighting fires and removing local hazards. In addition to purchases, the experience of units, exercises on new equipment and joint learning and exchange of experiences among firefighters is very important. Project partners: Klukowo Commune, Czerwin Commune and Lutsk district are located in the areas with a lot of afforestation - for example in Czerwin Commune over 15% of the area are forests and floodplains with frequent floods. The main objective of the project is to strengthen the cooperation of rescue services operating on the cross border area, in order to more effectively respond to emerging threats of forest fires and to remove the effects of natural disasters such as floods, fires and storms. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: 1. Raising the level of equipping rescue units with specialized rescue and fire-fighting equipment. 2. Raising the level of knowledge and experience of 160 rescuers from the Klukowo and Czerwin communes and Lutsk district. 3. Tightening cooperation and exchange of experience of rescuers from the crossborder area in the field of fighting fires and natural disasters. As a result of the project, fire brigades operating on both sides of the border will be equipped with equipment to fight fires and the effects of natural disasters such as floods and storms. For this purpose, the partners will purchase 7 rescue and firefighting vehicles and Kivertsi City Council will purchase two motor pumps. Polish and Ukrainian firefighters will also improve their qualifications, together they will learn to make decisions during the elimination of the effects of fires (first training) and to face the effects of natural disasters (the second one). Main output of the projects are: Number of emergency service units equipped to carry out rescue and disaster recovery operations – 6, Participations in joint actions across borders – 160, Number of purchased fire trucks equipped with rescue and disaster recovery equipment – 7, Area covered by protection measures against wildfires – 153 285 hectares. Result indicator: Population benefiting from wildfire protection measures – 464 811 people. Project’s target groups will be rescue units from the areas of the Klukowo and Czerwin communes and Lutsk district – Ukraine, i.e. Voluntary Fire Departments (VFD) from Piętki-Gręzki, Czerwin, Malinowo, and Jarnuty, Fire unit from Kivertsi City and State Fire and Rescue Squad of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Volyn region. These vehicles will be used by firefighters members of these units. The final beneficiaries will be the inhabitants of the Klukowo and Czerwin Communes and Lutsk district. The expected change brought by the project is better equipment and training of units from Poland and Ukraine. It will allow for more efficient fighting with fires and other natural disasters. Mutual cooperation and learning during the exercises as well as the exchange of experiences will allow to better use the purchased equipment. The implementation of the project creates a strong basis for further cooperation among the partners.
