The collaborative project between partners from Romania and the Republic of Moldova represents a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing the environmental, economic, and social fabric of the cross-border region through the regeneration of urban and rural green areas and the establishment of green educational networks. This project, grounded in sustainability, community engagement, and innovation, seeks to address pressing environmental challenges while fostering sustainable development and bilateral cooperation. The primary objective of the project is to develop of joint actions aimed at increasing the population's awareness of the conservation of nature's biodiversity and green infrastructure to reduce all forms of pollution during the implementation of the project. The younger generation, although seemingly lacking strength in dealing with environmental public policies, is the one that will bear the effects of current decisions. It is important to explain to the younger generation the implications of actions or inactions regarding the environment and the protection of biodiversity. The "Volunteer for more GREEN" actions, the regeneration of cross-border urban and rural green areas, and the pilot action on the regeneration of educational spaces are some examples of a bottom-up approach to issues with a positive impact on local and cross-border communities. If the big strategies translated into operational programmes aim at large-scale actions translated into major projects at city, county or regional level, this project targets small, local and cross-border communities. The project is poised to create a myriad of lasting impacts on both the environmental landscape and the social fabric of the Romania-Republic of Moldova cross-border region. By regenerating green areas and establishing educational green networks, the project contributes to the creation of healthier, more sustainable, and resilient communities. Environmental improvements, such as enhanced biodiversity and better air quality, are complemented by social benefits, including increased community engagement, improved mental and physical health, and the promotion of sustainable lifestyles. Furthermore, the project serves as a replicable model for other regions, demonstrating the feasibility and benefits of integrating green spaces into urban and rural planning, as well as education. The successful implementation of this project can inspire similar initiatives, spreading the principles of sustainability and environmental regeneration across borders and beyond. This collaborative project between partners from Romania and the Republic of Moldova stands as a testament to the power of cross-border cooperation in addressing environmental challenges, promoting sustainable development, and building resilient communities. Through its strategic outputs and comprehensive approach, the project not only enhances the environmental and social landscape of the involved territories but also sets a precedent for future collaborative efforts in the region and beyond.

Actual Achievements (EN):

During the first reporting period, progress was made in project management and communication, ensuring effective and constructive cooperation with the project partners. 1. Project Management: As LP1, FLAG Galati focused on establishing the internal framework necessary for effective project implementation. Decisions were made to appoint the project team, and employment contracts were signed (as stated in the Financing Application part), each accompanied by the corresponding job description, ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities within the team. On 2 July 2025, a Partnership Meeting in people-to-people format was held at C-HUB in Galați. The discussions focused on all aspects related to the Addendum, the next implementation steps, and the reporting methods. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Managing Authority, present in the context of a monitoring visit linked to the conclusion of Addendum 1 to the grant contract regarding the withdrawal of PP2 – PRO NATURA Galați. All partners – LP1, PP2, and PP3 – participated in the meeting. In addition, LP1 participated in the information sessions organized by the Managing Authority. 2. Project activities Activity 1.1 – Project Launching Conference The event (D1.1.1) was held on the 2nd of July 2025 in Galati City. 33 participants attended. The launching event significantly increased the project’s visibility among representatives of local public authorities, educational institutions, pupils, academia reprezentatives, NGOs, Management Authority, and the general public. At the project launch, LP1 was unable to publish the planned press release(D1.1.2 - Presee release) as foreseen in the Activity Plan (WP1, A1.1 – D1.1.2), since the budget line for this deliverable (External Expertise and Services – Press Release for Activities 1.1, 1.3, and 1.7) fell under the scope of the Addendum. Nevertheless, local and regional media attended the event, and a follow-up online article was published, which can be accessed here: https://www.monitoruldegalati.ro/comunitate/pereti-verzi-si-educatie-ecologica-in-scoli-din-galati-si-cahul-printr-un-proiect-transfrontalier-inedit.html?highlight=WyJncmVlbiIsImxpZmUiXQ== Activity 1.6 – Communication and Visibility Actions: The production of visibility materials was not carried out during the first implementation period as foreseen in the Activity Plan (WP1, A1.6), since the budget line for this activity (External Expertise and Services – Promotional Materials Kit, 350 kits to be distributed during project events, Activity 1.6 & D1.6.4) was subject to the Addendum. Activity 1.8 – Procurement of Equipment: Although delayed due to the adoption of Addendum No. 1, Activity 1.8 – Procurement of Equipment (as provided in the budget chapter “Equipment”) was successfully completed by the end of the first implementation period, thereby preventing any potential budgetary imbalances. LP1 – FLAG Galați maintained regular and constructive collaboration with the project partners, ensuring the project’s implementation under the given conditions. During this reporting period, despite some delays, LP1 actively supported the implementation of upcoming project activities in close collaboration with its partner, PP3 – ACTIE Cahul. Significant progress was achieved in engaging stakeholders, organizing administrative processes, and coordinating effectively with project partners. Moving forward, LP1 will continue its efforts by completing the procurement of visibility materials, enhancing communication and visibility initiatives, carrying out activities delayed or planned for Period 2 (with the possibility of extension into Period 3), and further reinforcing cooperation with the project partner and other relevant stakeholders. During the first reporting period, PP3 – ACTIE (Cross-Border Cooperation and European Integration Agency) made significant progress in the areas of project management, communication, and the preparation of key activities, contributing directly to the Work Package 1 deliverables and fostering effective collaboration with other project partners. ACTIE actively participated in the official project launching conference held on July 2nd, 2025, in Galați, Romania, with the presence of the Project Manager and legal representative. The event marked the start of the project and engaged key stakeholders including local public authorities, environmental institutions, and the general public. The team began drafting templates for visibility materials and researching market offers for the promotional kit. Full implementation will take place in Period 2, once the addendum is approved. A press release is also planned at the beginning of Period 2 to inform the public about the project.

GreenDeal, RePowerEU (EN) | Legally binding climate targets including emission reduction targets across a wide range of sectors, incentives for natural carbon absorbers, updated emission allowances to limit emissions, put a price on pollution and generate investment in the green transition, social support for citizens and small businesses on the transition. The project contributes synergistically to the reduction of emissions in a sector related to youth education, through the implementation of greening actions, through the organization of the "Volunteer for more green" camp, through the implementation of pilot actions of green walls in educational institutions. It is also part of the objective of stimulating natural carbon absorbers through pilot actions of green walls, knowing that plants have the role of oxygenating, purifying the air around them, absorbing toxic emissions from the air.
Basically the GreenLife project is synergistic with the objectives of GreenDeal, RePowerEu, as it contributes to actions that support the protection of the environment, addresses the impact on climate change with a strong involvement of young people from both countries. (EN), The Social Climate Fund (SCF) (EN) | SCF comes to the aid of EU citizens affected by or at risk of fuel poverty or mobility poverty in the context of the green transition.
The project acts in synergy towards the most vulnerable groups by raising awareness among the target group (adults but especially the younger generation) about energy efficiency, building renovation and finding regenerative solutions (green walls in schools through the proposed pilot action) together with the integration of energy from renewable sources (e.g. solar panels). (EN), Just Transition Fund (The Just Transition Mechanism) (EN) | The Just Transition Fund supports investments in areas such as digital connectivity, clean energy technologies, emissions reduction, regeneration of industrial sites, reskilling of workers and technical assistance. ”JUST” supports the investments needed to help the territories where the negative economic and social effects of transition are most pronounced, in order to combat and mitigate regional disparities. Galati County is part of this mechanism as target county. FLAG Galati is a member of the Coordination Group for ”Just Transition Fund” and actively supports the transition to climate neutrality in Galati County. The group ensures the dialogue between the parties to allow permanent mutual information on current issues in the process of transition to climate neutrality, ensuring permanent monitoring of the Territorial Just Transition Programme, the evolution of socio-economic and environmental indicators in the process of just transition, and informing the community appropriately.
The project comes in synergy in the transition process, in parallel with the promotion of actions to increase the degree of awareness of the climate transition especialy of the young generation (panels, seminaries, and regenerating of the educational spaces), but not only.
The Green life project has a major component of community involvement, especially young people because they have the ability to be receptive to actions that can influence their future and not in a positive way, but they also have the ability to be innovative when looking for solutions for mitigating/stopping processes that affect climate change. (EN), Joint actions for environmental protection in Black Sea Basin -BeECO, BSB1107, Finalized (EN) | The main objective of the BeECO project was promoting environmental protection in the Black Sea Basin through common education, awareness and river clean-up campaigns to reduce river and marine litter. Within this project, ACTIE Cahul (PP3) was partner in implementation consortia. The complementary activities proposed in the GreenLife project are related those already implemented in BeECO and the partners have experience in improving future activities, already knowing the approach.
