The project aims to strengthen cross-border cooperation between Greece and Cyprus in the field of civil protection by jointly developing mechanisms for disaster prevention, preparedness and response with a particular focus on earthquake risks. The intervention area lies within one of the world's most seismically active zones. Tectonic movements in the Eastern Mediterranean, including the "Hellenic Arc," generate frequent and strong seismic events, making the enhancement of prevention and disaster management processes an urgent necessity. Cooperation between the 2 M-S is based on the bilateral agreement concerning collaboration between the Fire Services of Greece and Cyprus, and is further reinforced through the European Civil Protection Mechanism. The Beneficiaries share a common vision: to achieve the highest possible level of prevention, deterrence, and limitation of natural disasters. Through the development of a shared operational framework and a coordinated response mechanism, the project will enable faster, more efficient joint actions during emergencies, fully taking into account the specific geographical characteristics of the region, such as proximity and maritime borders. Expected Results: The project will ensure that the stakeholders are fully familiar with each other's operational procedures, facilitating optimal coordination of personnel and resources. It will enhance cooperation through: Exchange of knowledge and expertise. Joint use of transportable equipment and vehicles. Development and adoption of shared prevention and response methods and tools. By treating the cooperation area as a unified operational space, the project will consolidate and institutionalize the long-standing partnership between Greece and Cyprus in civil protection. This will lead to maximized resource efficiency, enhanced prospects for coordinated action, and a significant contribution to the protection of human life, property, and environmental assets.
